This, and related "cookie paranoia" always makes me chuckle (no offense).
The data collected -- and shared without your knowledge or consent -- by shopper's cards for supermarkets and drug stores (especially COSCO) and any catalog company from which you place an order, is several magnitudes more serious and intrusive than any data collected by cookie tracking. That data includes your personal info, income, psychographics/demographics, home value, and much more.
It's almost as if you'd think there might be a "conspiracy" by direct marketers to keep public scrutiny and outrage focused on harmless cookies so that you don't notice the mountain of personal data they've collected. Hrm... ... ... ...nah.
That's why I am not a member of any loyalty programs, Pay cash for most things, refuse to do any surveys, and thr to avoid buying from places that need my details etc. It's none of there damn business.
My credit report on my credit card show that I use it for big ticket items and thats about it. I didn't even have a CC till it was required in my current job.
Yes I know there is db's out there linked to myself with marketing details etc on it, (PS3 is one, they would be tracking everything i used that box for as It is always online.) Does not mean I can not make it harder for them to do it thou.
