The U.S., a wretched hive of scum and villainy.
I've started a thread on Tim Walz because I think he deserves his own, and also as a dumping ground for all the ******** attacks against him.

Tim Walz left National Guard battalion ‘hanging,’ ‘slithered out the door’ before Iraq deployment: vets

Hours ago, while reading his bio on Wikipedia, I knew this is where they'd start. And the New York Posterior does not disappoint us.

Veterans have accused Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz of “embellishing” his military career and abandoning his National Guard battalion, highlighting that the now-vice presidential pick for the Democrats never served in combat and retired from service ahead of his unit’s 2005 deployment to Iraq.

Of course, this is a heavily-spun version of one side of the story. Let's go look at what's currently in his Wikipedia bio (subject to change and vandalism, of course).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Walz#2018

Walz announced he would run for governor after Mark Dayton, the incumbent Democratic governor, chose not to seek a third term. On November 6, 2018, Walz was elected governor, defeating the Republican nominee, Hennepin County commissioner Jeff Johnson.[2]

During the campaign, two senior retired NCOs of the Minnesota National Guard falsely accused Walz of fabricating facts about his service and lying about his military rank.[53] The allegation about his military rank was debunked.[54]

Let's look at those two footnotes, 53 and 54, courtesy of the Wayback Machine. Footnote 53 leads us to this. It's long, you can skip as much as you want, but the most important thing is the last line.

The Truth About Tim Walz

Tim Walz has embellished and selectively omitted facts and circumstances of his military career for years.

We, retired Command Sergeants Major of the Minnesota National Guard, feel it is our duty and responsibility to bring forth the truth as we know it concerning his service record. So, we have put together a timeline of his service post 9/11. To the best of our knowledge, this information is completely true, having been verified by all those who served in positions with first hand knowledge of the facts and circumstances of his service and departure from the Minnesota National Guard. Many of the dates and time frames are from his official discharge document and the reduction order reducing him to Master Sergeant.

This is a paid endorsement letter to the editor.

Hmmm, this is NOT investigative journalism! It is a paid advertisement in some small-town rag that will print anything for money. BUT THIS THE SOURCE THAT THE "NEW YORK BIRDCAGE LINER" IS RELYING UPON FOR THEIR REPORT! A ******* PAID ADVERTISEMENT BY A COUPLE OF JERKS WITH A GRIEVANCE!!!

And then footnote 54:

Answer Man: Is Walz's rank rank?

Dear Answer Man: I know your expertise extends far and wide, but what about matters pertaining to the military? U.S. Rep. Tim Walz, the DFL nominee for governor, claims to have retired as a command sergeant major in the Army National Guard, making him the highest-ranking enlisted soldier to serve in Congress. But is that true? My understanding is that he did not fulfill all the requirements to hold the rank of command sergeant major, so how can he claim to have been a CSM, as he does in his campaign materials and promotions? — Inflated rank

And there you have it. Case closed! The attack is pure ********! And they damn well know it! But of course, we know what know Joseph Goebbels said about repeating a lie.

So they are going to try to "swift boat" him? Not sure how much energy they want to put into that, since he is the VP nom, not the top of the ticket.

This isn't going to get much play. It's not like it's a big secret, and it's a certainty that Harris' people were ready for it. It just plays to the usual drooling morons. But it'll get repeated for a while until it's dead.

I do like an attack to the effect of "Tim Walz embellished his record!" "Tim Walz only tells you the good things about himself!" No ****, so has everyone else.

Also, my cowardly father retired from the Navy rather than go to Viet Nam. What they hell, that's your line of attack. He almost certainly retired a little earlier than planned to not go to Iraq which is what almost anyone else would.

Wow, they are desperate. Did they try that line of attack the last few times he won public office?

background on Walz's record

"Walz earned several awards, including the Army Commendation Medal and two Army Achievement Medals, according to his military records..."Walz' leadership on behalf of his fellow veterans when he was in the U.S. House of Representatives is notable at a time when our all-volunteer force continues to struggle to recruit," Allison Jaslow, CEO of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, said in a statement praising the choice of a veteran to be vice presidential nominee. "How we care for our veterans is as important to our national security as how we care for our troops, and Walz has a record to prove that he understands that imperative."" link Walz's tinnitus may have affected his decision to leave service.

I hear ya. My 'cowardly' dad served in Korea 1950-51 and flew missions over East Germany 1958-1962 but retired after 20 years in the AF rather than take a promotion and go to Viet Nam.

Too bad Donnie had heels spurs that got him his 5th military deferment. I bet he'd have been the best soldier in the history of soldiering, like none we've ever seen before. The Viet Cong would never have dared to keep on fighting and Donnie could have negotiated the end of the war in two weeks!

The only social media I'm really on is TikTok. From posts there it seems that there's a #tampontim on the right online because he mandated that tampons, pads etc have to be placed free of charge in all bathrooms in MN schools.

Yep, that's the direction they are going. Because they need to shore up their anti-woman cred.

Oh I get it. The REAL problem is that they even put feminine hygiene products in the boys' bathrooms, so it's really an anti-trans screed, but the problem is, that's not how it's heard. And the other problem is that, even if people know that, so what if they did? How's that hurting anyone? Or maybe that's the problem...they aren't hurting the people that need to be hurt...

Still, I'm not sure it's going to hurt like they think it will. Kind of like when they tried the Brandon thing on Biden.

It wasn't an attack (as far as I know) but I saw a headline that said something like "Here's what we know about Tim Walz's wife". FFS leave the family out of it, especially this early.

Hope it's OK to post positive things about Walz in here too. ;)

Labeled “the cool dad” online, news that Walz would be the Democratic running mate ignited a stream of online memes, including one with the caption, “To the window to the Walz,” a reference to the hit 2003 rap song “Get Low” by Lil Jon and the East Side Boyz. On TikTok, users created 60-second montages of Walz talking about the phenomenon of the new Charli XCX album Brat, which he says his young daughter helped explain to him, mixed with footage of him lambasting GOP vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance for his comments on “childless cat ladies.”

“Go ahead and continue to denigrate people. Go ahead. My God, they went after cat people. Good luck with that,” Walz says in a MSNBC clip that has more than 150,000 likes on TikTok. “Turn on the internet. See what cat people do when you go after them.”

"Voters of Tomorrow, a Gen Z-led organization that represents young political activists and voters, threw its full support behind Walz after weeks of campaigning on his behalf, saying that he has “dedicated his life to educating and empowering young people as a teacher and public servant.”

"“Governor Walz gets bonus points for articulating exactly how young Americans feel about Donald Trump and JD Vance: They are weird,” Santiago Mayer, the group’s executive director, said in a statement. “Trump and Vance are weirdly fixated on taking away freedoms from Americans and weirdly obsessed with culture wars.”'

Well, after lots of my internet has been filled with Tim Walz in the last day or so, I can confidently say that he's awesome. The most relatable US politician I have seen in a long time.

I do realise that a 50 something man in the UK is not his target audience, so this is a fairly pointless post.

Oh I agree. Articulate and relatable. A perfect running mate.
