Although Scott Bessent is Secretary of the Treasury, his only degree is a BA in political science.

Which might explain why he didn't know who pays tariffs until a journalist explained it to him.

And might also explain why he thinks Robert Oppenheimer wasn't a physicist. Oppenheimer earned his doctoral degree in physics at the University of Göttingen under Max Born.

Come to think of it, it might suggest why a few people occasionally find reason to care about academic degrees.
