Split Thread The Sarah Scazzi murder case

Did the response to the motivation report have to be filed in the usual time? With 1000 pages of codswallop to wade through, that would have been difficult.

If they had delayed it would just mean more jail time for their clients as they awaited the next level trial. One other interesting thing. If you thought the Kercher case generated a lot of spin off lawsuits, this one was up to 22 at one point. And wiretaps, makes the Kercher ones look a little puny by comparison.

Going with the obvious, that Michele is the murderer and rapist and/or necrophile, does anyone have an idea why he would find the phone after the trail had gone cold?

The italian albatros blog had a really nice post on that and the other main questions. I'll see if I can track it down when I get back in this afternoon.

Thank you, Rose. Another question - has it been determined whether it was possible for one man to place the lid on the well?

In 1949 Timothy Evans falsely confessed to the murder of his wife. He said he had put her body in the drain outside their slum tenement in London. However, when the police went to look for it they found it took more than one man to lift the cover (and the body was not there either). So what is the weight of the lid in the present case and is it beyond man's devising to lever it up onto the well without assistance? We already solved the Scott Peterson disposal-at-sea problem (with your help with the shrink-wrap). I'm sure we can tackle this one too :D.

Did a quick image search, you can see the lid in the lower left of the first pick and the rock lower left of the second. It's not Bruce's boulder.

Ah, so the well is just a hole, with no built up structure above ground level? No little roof or axle to dangle a bucket from? That lid doesn't look insuperably heavy. What's the story with the rock?

Just that, a story. You could always flip it up and roll it a little at a time even if it is heavier than the 50 lbs or so it looks like from the picture.

Apparently the defense experts in the appeal trial presented a report where they were able to reconfigure the original cell phone grid set up and that showed the cops got it wrong that Sarah's cell phone connected from the scene of the murder (go figure). The judge has ordered an independent test to be done (a good sign).

The ridiculous case against Sabrina and Cosima

Why am I not surprised? This case and one other in Italy (one in which the number/style of rings in a shoe print could not be determined correctly) make me think that there are no negative consequences to biased, borderline fraudulent forensics in Italy. Until there I, there will be more ridiculous cases such as this one. Hey, I have an idea for the name of a blog...

How are you keeping up to date?

There is a thread at IA, and Luca is always helpful. It's just not getting the attention that the Kercher case generated. You need somebody that has an interest and speaks the language to really stay current on this one.

Ah, OK. Wonder if it's on TV over there.

What this case needs is Frank Sfarzo to take an interest or someone else in Italy that speaks English.

Next hearing 10 April according to roteoctober. I don't know where I got the April 1st at. No wonder I couldn't find anything on it.

It looks like today's hearing was just the appointment of the cell phone expert with the report due back in June. The defense had this to say (Google translation)

"Our experts have worked with the same tools used by Ros and have verified a discrepancy in reading the 'log file' important to determine the presence of the accused on the presumed site of 'murder. It's not that you can read in a different way: it's either A or B ". He said the lawyer. Franco De Jaco, who together with his colleague Luigi Rella defends Cosima Serrano, one of the two charged (the other is the daughter Sabrina) sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Sarah Scazzi, commenting on the decision of the Assize Court of Appeal to entrust an expert on relations office of the police officers of the ROS of Lecce.

It sounds like they are pretty confident and it sounds like the cops cheated on the cell phone stuff once again.

More great work by Italian villagers.
They got the witches.
The judges were powerless to prevent the lay jurors from destroying two innocent lives,
