The Romney's And Animal Cruelty

And the thing is digging something like this up 30 Freaking year after it happened and trying to make an issue out of it is going to be a big fail, and make the people doing look incredibly petty and desperate to all but other True Believers...the kind who would never vote for Mittens in a thousand years anyway..

On this point, no one dug it up. That's the amazing thing about this story. Mitt Romney volunteered this story, not 30 years ago, but in 2008 when he was running for President. He, Romney, brought up this episode as an example of his ability to handle whatever came up with no emotion.

So the idea that this was "dug up" by his opposition is entirely false. Now I ask you, do you agree with Romney that this episode nobly displays his "emotion-free crisis management" or is it something he should be sorry about?

Agreed that Romney trying to explain his way out of it was stupid. He should have just said "hey, it was a stupid thing to do and I learned better" and move on.
Now I want to watch a certain scene from National Lampoon's Vacation again......

I really didn't think Romney could beat Obama in the general election.

But if Obama supporters are worried enough to push stories like this, I just might be wrong.

I can only speak for myself. I am genuinely disturbed by this and think it's important. Apparently most Americans agree with me, so there you go.

On the point about being worried that Obama could lose to Romney, yeah, that worries me a lot. Romney would be just awful.

If this had been Obama instead of Romney, this same crap would be going on, except that the Libs would be crying who cares about something that happened 30 years ago,and the Conservatives who would be screaming that it is "indictive of the man's charecter".

So what should or should not matter in 30 year old behavior?

That nails it exactly. It is the fact that he tries to spin it as not a stupid thing.

Why do politicians of all ilk just not say 'hey I ****** up sorry'.

This is the silliest part of the whole thing.

The second silliest is that so many people don't seem to know if it qualifies as animal abuse.

IF this had not come up, you would have found something else about Romney to be "genuinely disturbed" about, considering your political views.

So an ad hom attack is warranted here? I'm not the guy who strapped a dog to the roof of my car, and my political views didn't force Romney to do that.

Perhaps you can point to another post of mine in which I feign outrage at something? If you want to attack my credibility, you better have some evidence or else apologize.

For 12 hours until it crapped itself?

My uncle's black Lab has probably logged close to 30,000 miles in the back of his truck...just last year (left Memorial Day weekend, returned the last weekend in June), Artemis traveled with him from Connecticut, to Florida (via Pittsburgh), to Georgia, to Alabama, to Indy, to Muskegon, MI, to Detroit, then to South Dakota, then back to Connecticut. From all appearances, Artemis ENJOYS it. (The moment the crate is in the bed & the tailgate down, she will jump up and run in.) Unless it's very hot, she prefers the crate to the cab! She got sick once...like Mitt's dog, it was after eating something she shouldn't have.

Like Mitt, my uncle washed her and the crate with a hose...she went back in the crate, they got back on the road. (It was warm enough that her being wet wasn't an issue.)

Um... crate on top of car =/= "strapped a dog to the roof"

We should probably get that part right at least, just for credibility's sake.

um,.....it's a dog. It lived. At least it wasn't leashed to the bumper when Mitt sped off.

Is anyone confused by the facts of the case? Sure, he put the dog in a crate, then strapped the crate to the roof of his car. I don't think anyone thought the dog was tied down. If anyone got that impression, I'll happily apologize. But the facts of the case are clearly laid out in this thread.
