The Real Big Election... Canada!

But it was Crouton who cancelled the EH-101 with no plans to find a replacement. There is only one person to blame for that farce and it is the guy from Shawinigan.

Yep, the one election promise he should have broken....

It's official, we vote on Oct. 14.

Heard on the radio, yesterday:

(something like) We're going to the polls on Oct. 14 and all across the land Canadians are asking, "How do I vote for Barack Obama?" :D

Bump.

Three days into the election (also three days with me gone) and you guys didn't have anything to say?

...

Okay, I heard on the radio this morning that Our Good Buddy Steve  is playing opposite day, saying that the Conservatives are good for the environment, national unity, etc. and that the Liberals would destroy all these things. Also, from the little I can tell (having been out of the country), Singleissue Dion :melting is doing everything humanly possible to try to lose the election in a glorious way! :boggled:

I have drawn some satisfaction from watching the Conservatives shoot themselves in the foot a few times so far. It'll be interesting to see what, if any, changes in the debates are caused by the Greens participation. I'm trying to remember what it was during the last election that confirmed to me that Jack Layton is a weasel but I can't quite recall what is was... in any case, his crying about negative Conservative ads and then defending running his own negative ads would be a current example of weaselness.

Yes, I just read that May will be in the debates! Interesting... and yeah, Layton does remind me of a car salesman ;).

What bugs me is that Dion is coming west today to promote his Green Shift! He shouldn't be promoting a program (well-thought-out or not), he should be focusing on winning an election!

Is this Looming Catastrophe some kind of brilliant strategy by Singleissue Dion :melting ? Is he still going to pull something amazing out of his posterior? He has four weeks and two days left. What is wrong with this picture?!

I think Dion's in the wrong job--he'd be much better being a top-level adviser to the party leader, or in a cabinet post. But he's not a leader. In English at least, he's a worse public speaker than even Harper.

I think Dion is smart. But smart does not always translate into effective leadership.

Ding ding!

I've heard him speak. His ideas in English are okay. Ignatieff did not appeal to the Quebec vote, so Dion was chosen... Problem is... in the country at large, English is the dominant language.

However, even for a French speaker, Singleissue Dion :melting gambled incorrectly. He felt this election would hinge on the environment. It is time to stop thinking about the Green Shift and start thinking about the election...

...

ETA: I'm sorry for the double post. I've been drinking, and don't quite know what I'm doing...

Any big scandals to report?
I used to listen to As It Happens in DC, can not find it here in CO

How do you think the election would turn out if Americans voted in the Canadian Elections and vice versa?

Who is the Canadian equivalent of Ralph Nader?

May?

A couple percent to either the Liberals or NDP? The problem is, it's not a 2-party system so it's tough to say who, exactly, is the spoiler...

Yup. We've got a 4½ party system (I only count the Bloc Quebecois as a ½ party because it is strictly a regional, Quebec-only party). Though of those 4½ parties, only two have a realistic chance of forming a majority government. In a minority situation it depends on the outcome as a coalition government is possible though rare.

Likewise.

Yes. Please feel free to make all the comments you wish -- as long as you don't slander our Queen.

Maybe, you will eventually find it easy to follow your own advice in your sig without even having to think about it! ;)

This year I'd like to vote for the NDP, but if I do that it'll be like giving a vote away to the Liberals, because the NDP isn't strong enough in my area. And I execrate the Liberals, so I'm stuck voting for the Bloc again.

From the elections canada website
Elections Canada said:
Question: Who are the candidates in my electoral district?

Answer:As of today, there are no candidates who have been officially confirmed in your electoral district. If you wish to vote at the office of the returning officer, or by special ballot, please contact the political party of your choice to find out who will be running. Please note that the nomination process for candidates closes on September 22, 2008, and a complete list of confirmed candidates will be available on September 25, 2008.
Given that voting takes place between Oct 3 (advanced voting) and Oct 14th, thats 8 to 19 days to look at my candidates.
