The Oldest Religious Structures & Ancient Aliens?

Thanks for the bump.

I read this last month about Göbekli Tepe:

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/10/111006162535.htm

"Ancient structures uncovered in Turkey and thought to be the world's oldest temples may not have been strictly religious buildings after all, according to an article in the October issue of Current Anthropology. Archaeologist Ted Banning of the University of Toronto argues that the buildings found at Göbekli Tepe may have been houses for people, not the gods."

Good science suggests he is probably right, wishful thinking hopes he may not be

Ahh so ancient people used there temples for sleeping, eating and painting.

Who would have thought!!!!

Sorry but that does not mean that they are not religious structures.

Their will never be evidence for how these ancient people abstractly saw their own creations. Only evidence of how we abstractly see there creations.

If any idea is close it's based on living people that live like these people might have.

In this regard the best idea I have read come from San rock art expert.
Prof. Lewis-Williams. See up thread for his books.

The woo woo crowd underestimates the abilities of ancient humans. If aliens existed we would discover objects made of plastic or complex machinery such as cars and airplanes. Instead what we are really seeing is mans ability to use primitive materials to achieve astounding buildings and architectural feats of genius.

Like 5000 year old philosophy the ancient architechs showed impressive abilities using sometimes lost sciences. It isn't men from the sky that did these things its our ancestors.

What caused us to lose this science?
Did this happen about 13,000 years-ago?
Another question would be; are the time-lines off?
If they didn't lose this science where would we be today?
It's all very interesting, this you have to admit.
What you also have to admit is they wrote this information down; they wrote that these superiors came down to help them to know the basics of how to do this, and why they did this.
Why would they write it that?

Discovering better science. It's pretty much why scrimshaw is a 'lost art'.

It's happening today.

Another question would be; are the time-lines off?

And yet another might be: "Who put the ram in the rama lama ding dong?"

If they didn't lose this science where would we be today?

Living in stone huts in Anatolia.

It's all very interesting, this you have to admit.

And yet you feel the need to 'enhance' the story with fanciful nonsense.

Why do we have to admit any such thing? Because you said so?

Not very compelling, I'm afraid.

Why would they write it that?

To gain advantage over the terminally credulous. It appears to work amazingly well.

Excellent point.

Once accomplishing these goals, it is to be hoped that we may ponder who put the dip in the dip-da-dip-da-dip.
