"The Oatmeal" is building a Tesla Museum

I want to thank Orphia Nay for drawing my attention to this thread. The thread and the links it provides are great. Sadly, I have little to add. I'm a big Tesla fan and I'm also a big Edison fan. I admire them both and find them both embarrassingly fallible. I like to learn more about both of them and so I say thanks again for letting me know what was up.

My pleasure, Ward! :) Your post makes me happy.

Everbody fusses about Edison, lots of people woo at Tesla, but what about Stienmetz? He's the one who made AC useful.

The Oatmeal said:
One of Tesla's final gifts to the world was a tower near New York City that would have provided free wireless energy to the entire planet

What in the world is this nonsense?

Edit: Tesla is undoubtedly worth a museum. But this strikes me as grade-A cobblers.

From here: http://www.trutv.com/conspiracy/in-...sed-inventions-ever/gallery.all.html?link=DCF

In 1899, he figured out a way to bypass fossil-fuel-burning power plants and power lines, proving that "free energy" could be harnessed using ionization in the upper atmosphere to produce electrical vibrations

It's on teh interwebz so it must be true :D.

edited to add....

The "Variant receiver" would generate power......apparently
