I have a concept I hope somebody can find a developer for; Build a housing development which is all steam-heated by one of those domestic heating reactors that Toshiba is making. And show what can be done with that kind of energy; Self clearing streets and sidewalks for example. And maintenance costs of a street that is warmed will be much lower than a regular street because potholes will almost never develop as they are caused by-in-large by the freeze/thaw cycle.
Build it somewhere that cold is really an issue, but where there is enough tourism that many people can see it for themselves; Minneapolis. Make it not far from the Mall of America.
Once people see the advantages in heating cost and cleared sidewalks, I don't think there will be any stopping that idea.
