The New Draft

Dorian Gray said:
It's exactly NOT like that. The idea is that people would change their tune if their own kids were subject to the draft.
But wouldn't people change their minds about the space program if their kids could be forced to work for it? Wouldn't they change their minds about medical research if their kids could be forced to be test subjects? Wouldn't people change their minds about coal mines if their children could be forced to work in them? I don't see how you addressed Patrick's point at all.

If you vote for war, then you should be willing to sacrifice yourself and /or your children (that includes Dem and Repubs).
WHY?!?
Can't anyone explain why the concept of division of labor, accepted for thousands of years, suddenly must discarded once we have a war? Why is it okay for me to pay someone else to scrub a toilet for me, but not to pay someone else to fight a war for me? Why isn't Michael Moore running around Washington demanding that Congressmen pressure their children into scrubbing toilets? Why is it hypocritical for someone who has no children in the military to vote for war, but no one complains about voting for more cops or teachers or firefighters without having any children in those professions? If we followed this sort of logic, the economy would grind to a halt.

And...what's so darn awful about a draft?
You mean other than it is antithetical to the principles of liberty, and implicitly endorses a Fascist (i.e. the government owns you completely) worldview?

. So, some American boys don't want to participate in the defense of their own country. Fair enough. Why should the country support them?
More precisely, some don't want to hand a blank check over to their government, and the government responds by taking their tax money, but refusing to allow participation in programs supported by those taxes. No government has the right to take money away from its citizens, then demand that they sign over their rights if they want to see any benefits from those taxes.
