The Mentality of Skeptics

^^ I see you are a floating book scoffer. I have read thousands of accounts of floating books, some of them with multiple witnesses. Some of those witnesses are even police officers and ex special forces. They have never been able to demonstrate a floating book for a camera or in the presence of a floating book non believer, but that is probably just due to the over whelming anxiety of the floating book scoffers.

I myself might run away if I saw a book float (How do you make an elephant... oh never mind).

But how do you explain the lack of floating book scat, huh? Got you there!

That would be more believable if there was actually a continent-wide floating book phenomenon where thousands of people report floating books.

Thousands of people throughout the world have reported alien-created gene engineered humans with magic abilities?

But who knows- there are 7 billion people in the world, and from what I have seen on the web, there are probably thousands (0.0001 percent) who have claimed to see almost anything one might imagine. Hey- there were 800,000 Yugos sold by the company- at least that many people must have incorrectly thought that they saw a good car when they first looked.

Bigfoot is either detectable or he's not. If he's not then why waste everybody's time?

More importantly, where is the data that shows bigfoot is undetectable, and where else in the animal kingdom does that happen?

This is a trap that non-skeptics (like I once was) tend to fall into when the facts point the other direction or just do not exist. You double-down on the improbable with the impossible. Along the way you've introduce factors that can be detected but are never present when the hairy one shows up.

If Bigfoot is real then he's real, he sleeps, he eats, he poops, and he makes baby Bigfeet. All of that is trackable and can be documented.

Setting aside whatever agenda is in the air about bigfoot, I think the point about skepticism v. denialism has merit.

This is a thread about it, but in the last several pages it turned into another thread debating the existence of Bigfoot.

Yegads, I hope most of us dole out our skepticism in proportion to the necessity for that skepticism, and do so without the slightest hint of uneasiness.

I'm not the least bit skeptical about the sun showing up again tomorrow morning, or what type of sandwich someone ate for lunch. If however, someone tells me they were abducted by a UFO, I'm going to don my skepticals.

Am I skeptical of everything? No way. Am I skeptical of extraordinary claims? You betcha.

Paranormal claims always seem to fall into that second category. Daybreak and sandwiches do not.

But the skeptics you are addressing are the ones you encounter in the threads about bigfoot. Your silly ideas about them arise exclusively on those threads.

Throughout Middle Ages thousands of people, possibly tens of thousands, reported succubi and incubi.

I am struggling in this thread. Can anyone tell me why exactly it might be that skeptics are somehow anxious because of FigBoot? OS has claimed it, but darned if I can figure out why and OS seems reluctant to answer.

I guess all it takes is a dictionary and the inability to read it competently to guarantee a thread that may never end.

How about we get back on topic (there are more than enough Bigfoot threads already IMHO), which you could do quite easily by posting some specific quotes displaying the kind of behaviour (anxiety, denialism) you claim is rampant here?
If you're right, members could be persuaded to rephrase or rethink their posts. On the other hand, if your interpretation is denied by those who posted, or if you can't provide any posts, then that will settle the matter against your claim.
Either way, we'll make some progress, rather than going over the same old ground over and over again.
Again, you could get jakesteele and Jango to help you. bubba seems to have had a bit of a change of heart, so you might not get much from him....

Well, no ****, Sherlock. I'm willing to bet my entire collection of belly-button lint that it will remain undiscovered for the rest of existence. Fancy giving me 50,000 to 1 odds? :boggled:
It's progress of a sort, though. At some point, we might come to the point of saying it will not be discovered because it cannot be, and then we must cope with the question of whether a thing that cannot be discovered can or cannot exist. At some point way down the road, after a few more millennia of not finding any bigfeet, a few brave souls might begin to doubt that there are any to find.

It's guaranteed to be denied by most. Just reading the responses to the op makes it obvious how it'll turn out.

Why don't you give it a shot, anyway, OS? Are you not keen to have your claim examined and possibly supported with evidence?
