Hmmm, I wonder, what are they really thinking?...

Could some interviewer please ask Matt Gaetz what the definition of groomer is.

The GOP have basically decided to make the word their campaign platform for the mid-terms.

James Lindsay's twitter feed uses the word non-stop now.

But from what I understand, this is essentially accusing people who either teach sex education or admit to their students they are LGBT+ that they are "grooming" them for their own sexual pleasure.

This sounds like complete slander to me, which is surely not protected by the first amendment.

I think she may mean "propositioning". I doubt she would know how to use the original word as a verb, nor its meaning. See: "gazpacho police". Multi-syllable words are clearly not her strong point.

Can she libel other people freely because she's a congress person?

No, I'm pretty sure she meant transitioning. Right wingers believe there's some vast conspiracy to manipulate children into being transgender.

Thinking back to my early teen years and the impact of an attractive woman wearing fitted clothes, I can’t imagine the effort that would have been required to convince me that I wasn’t a heterosexual male.

We’re republicans more on the fence during those years? Is being heterosexual really so fragile?

They seem to live in a world recreational abortionist and teens who are not at all interested in heterosexual sex. I’ve never been to that town, but I doubt it is in MAGA country.

Well, when so many of your female peers in high school have been spoken for because they're dating middle-aged Republican politicians, you might need to explore other options.

Actually, if you were being groomed for transitioning, you could have been convinced that you were a homosexual female ;)

This it seems to me is the big issue with all of this. I can also remember back to an age well before I was a teenager, and for all my liberal and relaxed attitude toward just about anything, I knew I was male, knew I liked it, and long before I knew what to do about it knew I was hetero even when I was young and so horny I'd have done just about anything with just about anybody. I've always been unconcerned about homosexuality, but I've also always known I'm not one, and it's hard to imagine what an even greater hardship it would be to feel stuck in the wrong gender.

I don't think anyone who is not either a lying political hypocrite or a person facing their own identity crisis would ever consider these characteristics so malleable.

This belief that so many have that anyone can 'choose' their sexuality/ gender identify has always baffled me. As you say, you've always know you are a heterosexual male. I've always known I'm a heterosexual female. It's not something I ever had to think about any more than I had to think about not liking liver.

I suspect that accepting the idea that one cannot 'choose' their sexuality/gender identity scares a lot of people because then they'd have to admit that it cannot be controlled or 'fixed'. It removes any power/control they think have over it plus would remove the stigma that it's 'immoral' or a 'sin' because it's not a choice. Again, it boils down to fear that is a basic component of the conservative mindset.

A couple jobs ago I worked directly with a tech who was gay. We became pretty good friends. As she once said to me, "I didn't choose gay, gay chose me." As she also said, with all the hassles that come with being gay, who would choose it?

Reality has nothing to do with the blathering of Marjorie Taylor Greene and her cohorts. She's a demagogue. Below is a quote from an article in The Conversation, an academic website, written six years ago by Richard Ashby Wilson, a Professor of Anthropology and Law at the University of Connecticut.
Demagogues do not reassure the electorate with a rational assessment of risk as mainstream politicians tend to do. Instead, they play up existing threats, embrace a narrative of victimhood and sow despair. Mocking, humiliating and denigrating scapegoats is their stock in trade. Demagogues often seek to instill fear by constantly telling their followers they are under mortal threat. link to The Conversation

Sound familiar?

Sound familiar?

Exactly. Another example of a demagogue:

Actual quote from the TV series:

"All we want are the facts, ma'am"

Seems it permutated over the years in people's minds.

The movie also had the line, "This is the pit we had to jump into to save the virgin who was being eaten by the giant snake!"

I don't think that was in the original series either

A great line from another Jack Webb series (Adam12, was, as well as I can remember, "a crooked cop puts a hat on all of us, and we have to swallow it".
