Cont: The Marjorie Taylor Greene thread - Part II

Nah, she put out some feelers on that and got shot down immediately.
In my opinion, she has always been a grifter, got elected to congress to make as much as possible, and she has now deciced to get why the getting is good.
But now who will defend Anglo Saxon Politicla Insisutions..my own favorite Marjorism.
Interesting. That sounds more like a statement of fact than an 'opinion'. On what do you base it?

MTG assumed office on January 3, 2021. She is resigning January 5, 2026. She could stay the remainder of her term, until January 2027, but it seems she decided to cut and run as soon as she was properly vested in her FERS retirement plan. And perhaps after she was well enough connected to invest well.

FERS retirement vestment starts after five years of service in Congress. MTG will get her pension starting at age 62. Her salary is $174,000 a year. FERS for Congress is 1.7% of their salary for each year served; $14,790 a year after five years.

Knowing that MTG never had any of her sponsored bills signed into law and that she likely benefited greatly from her position in Congress while trading stocks, it appears that her Congressional career was just a self serving scam.

yeah it's a self serving scam, got to get yours. it's the maga way.

i do believe she was a true believer in some of the stuff. dem pedo rings and things like that. i think she figured out none of that was happening and when they starting breaking the walls open and stripping the copper out of the us government and economy she cut her losses. a little smarter than some of these people who will hang around too long and end up in prison.

i guess you'll notice that doing your job and actually serving the people isn't on any former or present maga's radar at all at any point in this. even the true believers.

I'm waiting for her to pull the mask off, ala Impossible Mission and find out it's been Sacha Baron Cohen all along. He started filming a Borat like skewing of far right republicans, and it just got out of hand.

REading some of her commentary on the rift and her unwillingness to commit to opposing impeachment, she remarks “I refuse to be a ‘battered wife’ hoping it all goes away and gets better,” An interesting characterization of the relationship. Hell hath no fury!

According to her own narrative, she is the pumped-up hard-body bitch inclined towards doing any battering. Projection?

McCarthy on Greene: She’s the ‘canary in the coal mine’
Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said Tuesday that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-Ga.) looming retirement is a broader representation of embattled GOP lawmakers who could depart under the Trump administration and put the Republican majority at risk.

“She’s almost like the canary in the coal mine,” McCarthy said during a Tuesday interview on Fox News’s “Jesse Watters Primetime.”... McCarthy’s words come in tandem with 22 House Republicans who have either made the decision to retire early or forgo a reelection bid next year.
The Republican leadership is trying to spin this as a positive, but MTG's action is making other Republicans think about resigning too. One senior House Republican told Jake Sherman of Punchbowl News:-
"This entire Whitehouse team has treated ALL members like garbage... the regular rank and file members are more upset than ever... More explosive early resignations are coming. It's a tinderbox. Morale has never been lower."
It's having a positive effect alright, but not for Trump Republicans. That's what we need to start calling them now - not MAGA. Trump may have the coined the phrase 'Make America Great Again" but he doesn't own it. Neither is he doing it, and the actual MAGA crowd are starting to realize they've been duped.

I think the people here saying that MTG only got into politics to grift are wrong. Of course she will wait until completing five years of service before resigning to get FERS - who wouldn't? But she has been critical of Trump for months now, long before showing any indication that she might throw in the towel. I believe her reasons are genuine. This doesn't mean I agree with all the stuff she has said and done - far from it - but it does suggest she is being honest.

In a February 2021 speech on the House floor MTG said "I was allowed to believe things that weren't true, and I would ask questions about them and talk about them, and that is absolutely what I regret". One of the people who 'allowed' her to believe falsehoods was Trump, who unlike her knew they were lies and promoted them anyway. People here pooh-pooh her talking about being a 'battered wife', but that is exactly what Trump has been doing to Republicans. Now some of them have finally had enough and are packing their bags.

'Skeptics' say these Republicans are only resigning because they will lose in the next election, but that's not it. The truth is they have lost faith in Trump and can no longer stand being under his thumb. However as any battered wife can tell you, it takes a lot of strength to do that. MTG is the first because she has that strength.

A lot of the GOP are way smarter than Trump, and can see the writing on the wall. MTG may be mad as a cut snake, but she isn't entirely brain-dead either. So it may have become clear to her in recent months that now just might be the time for this rat to abandon this ship.
