The Loon and the Law

Please don't mischaracterize the ACLU's position on the matter. Just last year, the ACLU defended church's right to hold baptisms in a river bordering a public park.ACLU.org

It's the same debate that's held every Christmas. Personally, I don't have a problem with religious displays in public areas, so long as it doesn't involve proselityzing (someday I've got to learn to spell that word), and no religion is excluded.

BTW, since we're tangentially on the subject (ACLU, and restrictions on public displays), I highly recommend Skokie .

Since there is no agreement, this may be unnecessary.

Eugene, Oregon has a designated public speaking place in a prime location. It is across the street from where there there is an outdoor public market ( food, music, crafts and produce) every Saturday. They even provide a microphone and speakers.

It is amazingly polite. Extreme born agains and hippies line up to get their two minutes of speaking. No one really seems to care about the speakers unless there is a local issue being discussed.
