The Jan. 6 Investigation

What I find curious is the defense used the QAnon conspiracy nonsense in the trial defense. So was that because the defendant insisted and believes? Do the lawyers believe? Were they hoping for a couple of the jurors believing?

:boggled:

It's funny. That thing's mate told the other monkeys in the troop to not cooperate. I was amused by the fact the its mate displayed proto-human emotions. I do hope the rest of the troop follows its mates' advice and doesn't seek a deal. There's plenty of room for their kind at the National Zoo. I'm sure the Smithsonian people can pull together an exhibit for near human primates of the 1/6 variety.

Jesus, Trump supporters are so uppity. They forget their place. Their kind should remember that they aren't really human.

Stand by Your Man....even when he's a psycho case who threatens your own children. As a mother, if my husband EVER threatened my daughter like that, he'd be so far in my rear view mirror and getting served with divorce papers.
Thankfully, my husband isn't an idiot.

Maybe it's just "standing by her man", but it seems more likely that she's proud of his involvement.

There's plenty of CHUDettes out there too. The way she speaks it's pretty clear she's deep down the right wing rabbit hole. There's nothing unusual about some right wing freak supporting a conservative hierarchy where a criminal father has to occasionally threaten disobedient children with extreme violence.

True. Women can be just as stupid as men. I give you Phyllis Schlafly, Boebert, Taylor Greene, Palin, etc.

Well, here's some SHOCKING news:

Former national security adviser Michael Flynn met with the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot and exercised the Fifth Amendment, several news outlets reported.

David Warrington, Flynn's lead attorney, said that Flynn met with the House panel on Thursday and "exercised his 5th Amendment right to decline to answer the Committee's questions," according to ABC

All these people pleading the Fifth when asked about Jan. 6. How surprising....

Especially now that the party line is that it was perfectly legitimate political speech.

A law firm advises:
[The Fifth Amendment] applies any time a person is forced to make a statement that could be used to incriminate them.

We've all seen the clips from the Senate hearings on organized crime and the Mafioso guy saying, "Senator, I respectfully decline to answer the question on the grounds it might tend to incriminate me."

So let's be clear. The reason why witnesses invoke their 5th Amendment right is, to avoid answering questions that might incriminate them.

The reason lawyers generally advise their clients not to testify in criminal trials is not because they 'know' or 'think' they're guilty, but because they know that a good prosecutor can confuse a defendant making them contradict themselves or appear like they're lying.

Flynn wasn't testifying at a criminal trial. He was testifying before Congress on a matter of grave national concern.

Not really a surprise, but...

Jan. 6 warnings held back by officials at DHS, watchdog finds

Really short version -

And yet, according to a new federal watchdog report, officials at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) kept that information mostly internal because the staff was poorly trained, inexperienced, and worried that overreporting of threats might trigger widespread criticism, like what the agency faced a year before when it was revealed that it had compiled intelligence reports on journalists covering the George Floyd protests in 2020.

These findings come from a DHS Office of the Inspector General report published on March 10. Over 50 pages, the assessment lays out in troubling detail how staff within the agency’s Intelligence and Analysis branch spotted threats as early as December.

Agency goes overboard in favor of supporting the right-wing fascist element, gets rightly criticized for it, then gets afraid to even report on much stronger signals when the culprits are right-wingers. I'm going with serious doubt here about how much of that is actually as reported compared to a more banal justification of bias.
