The Gospel

Delphi, man cannot live by bread alone. What is your interpretation of this scripture?
1 Cor. 1:18-21....
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:
"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."
Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.

Kathy, I don't care about quotes from a book you regard as scripture. I'm fairly sure Delphi_Ote doesn't either.

I would be astonished if you responded to any of the questions put to you on point. That means NOT throwing irrelevant scripture at the question, but thinking.

What do I make of those scriptures? It sounds to me like the authors of the bible wanted to include some insurance against critical thinking.

It also sounds to me like you're advocating ignorance.

translation please

"After that, therefore because of that."

I think I have the right fallacy. I know your argument contains a flaw of causality. It could be another non-sequitur, however.

They are both fallacies. Post hoc affirms the consequent, while non-sequitur can either affirm the consequent, or deny the antecedent, among other forms.

In any case, what I'm saying to your argument is that there is no reason to ascribe morals to a god while there are people around. It's also a parsimony issue, as has been mentioned before.

The simpler and more rational explanation for morals is that humans create them based on various societal needs. Why bring a god, or aliens, or any other unprovable thing into it when the simple answer is acceptable?

How far underground can a 30ft tall biomechanoid get?
WEll, I started digging here....

Delphi, c'mon over. I got a backup of the forum there that allows you to hotlink to your little heart's desire.

I want so badly to hotlink to a picture of the "Just Say No" logo...

Oh, K-Mo.... to see a fellow Freakshowist resorting to hotlinking as a means to leading someone to the temple...

Good idea....

Perhaps it's true, "You have to be like a child to see." The great thing about kids is they are open minded and teachable. I think adults can learn much from children, how about you? Sometimes children can say the most profound things that really get your attention.

Do you have any children?

Act like a child so I can see your imaginary friend? Got it. Now you're advocating ignorance and naivety.

I'm all for curiosity, but you have to filter your beliefs somehow.

Looks to me like he's saying: "Hey all you stupid people! The smart people aren't buying my line of $h!+! Come follow me and we'll show them!"

I have 4 kids so I think I know the difference. I remember when one of my girls was about 6 years old and she told me to stop worrying because it was a sin. She was right and I then wanted to try to stop worrying so much about things.

Worrying is a sin? Where does the bible say that? Does that mean you don't (or aren't supposed to) worry about other people's well-being, worry about the state of the world? You're supposed to live your life all Hakuna Matata?

What's Hakuna Matata?

Worrying is a sin, but I'm supposed to fear going to Hell? What a sadistic creator you've imagined, kathy. No matter what I do, I'm ****ed!
