Rt, I appreciate your sharing here. It does concern me when I hear so many people see the wrong impression of what being a true Christian is. I would say from what you said about your wife you are a blessed man!
We take a stand in believing God, we are not purposely trying to inflict pain on others by sharing it. This is again a misconception. We don't want anyone to miss out on heaven! Isn't just easier to want to believe God than not?

And as far as what happened to you at that church that really upsets me that those people treated you guys that way. People need love and acceptance, not a cold shoulder. I had a very dear girlfriend that went through a similar situation after she divorced her 1st husband. It took her years to find faith again after that. I am happy now to see how God faithfully brought her back and gave her a new 2nd husband that is a Christian too!

And when it comes to some of the other issues ...well that's a whole other topic but I am concerned with some of these type of teachings that Hank calls more Word of Faith Movements. Here's a link if you are interested...

Believing in God requires all kinds of mental hoop jumping for people like me who go "Gee, how can a moral being sentence people to eternal torture?" etc, etc.

Not believing in a God is a cinch.

Belief makes you feel better, but it doesn't actually solve any problems.
Read the quote in my sig. I think it sums up this issue quite nicely.

What is a True Christian? How do I identify one? For example, how do I know you're a True Christian and the people that mistreated Roadtoad aren't?
