The Gospel

I have given this devil a million chances to get my soul and all I have asked him is to either drop a leaf off a tree within a certain period of time or simply turn off a light. I have asked god to make my Lan connection to drop within 30 seconds of me asking him and still nothing.
I bought a lottery ticket once, and prayed to God that I wouldn't win. He really came through for me that time. Prayer works!

Not only do I believe it, but I believe if God had not kept his hand on me I would not have lived through lot's of things in my life! Now I am free and walking in the light:)

As Lisa said, I'm happy for you.

You may want to consider that a particular religious book resonates with you as a result of your upbringing. For myself, not having brought up in Judeo-Christian household, I find that the bible and the torah make no sense and provide no spiritual or emotional resources. For me, its akin to whether you like ice cream. Some people do. Some people don't. And if you don't, having someone trying to make you eat it and making nummy nummy noises doesn't change the fact that you don't like ice cream.

Are there people who didn't rely on God and lived through similar things? OF course.

If two people are dying of cancer - one prays and one doesn't - now they both recover - what are you going to hear about? The 'miracle' of the one who prayed, of course.

Richard G Said “Because it is the truth, a truth of moral absolutes. And it goes against todays humanism which says there is no absolute right or wrong. Man in rebelion does not want to be constrained by the knowledge of a righteous God who will judge them.”

It both shocks and amuses me to hear Bible thumpers who are so ignorant of their own religious myths, the gospels are about the Christian salvation myth not a guide of moral behavior. According to Christian myth anyone who truly accepts Jesus as their lord will receive everlasting life, the immoral acts they had committed before hand have no bearing on their salvation.
If the BTK Killer, Andrea Yates, Erik Rudolph, and all the latest child killers find a “true” faith in Jesus, they get heaven as a reward; please fill us in as to how this is “a moral absolute”.

By the way I'm not offended by anything in the BIBLE, just the ignorant a##h@ls that think themselve to be christ like.

Is it true that the BTK killer had that heart warming bumpersticker on his car "Christains are not perfect, just forgivin"????????

Which one? The four that made the final cut at the Council of Nicea, or the 120+ that didn't?

Apparently, The Gospel of Thomas almost made it in to the Canon, and was only slightly outvoted. (A bit too Gnostic, it seems)

Why is the gospel such an offense to people?
Because plants and animals can't read?

Hi Kathy - Glad you started your own thread.

Kathy introduced herself in another thread...

I know I am very straight forward about my belief but I am very concerned about this subject and have a strong personal conviction about it. You see I was so there before my turn around last November. I was one of the people that thought she had some kind of special gift, or phsycic ability. Only to find out I was being deceived by a presence named Joseph who told me he was my guardian angel? It only took a couple of days before God exposed this demon for the liar he was. Along with that I was able to be delivered from lots of bondage or things that I believed were true because of going to phycics and believing their readings. See I fed lots of lies so God needed to give me what I consider a miracle to get free from it. I know my faith has made me whole and I just want to be able to share my supernatural experience with others that might have been through some of the same things. I really wish all people faith, hope and love in their lives too. Hoping all things work to the good is important to me!
Typical newborn in the spirit. Trusting in God to protect her while she walks through the lion's den.

No one finds it offensive.

Think more along the lines of the Ghandi quote "I like your Christ, but I do not like your Christians - you're Christians are so unlike your Christ".

Is that "You ARE Xians, (and) are so unlike your Christ", or "Your Xians are so unlike your Christ", meaning that I own the Xians...? :D

And even if the one who didn't is a world-class cyclist and seven-time winner of the Tour de France, nobody makes a big deal over the fact that he put his "faith" in modern science and medicine.

Violence to fig trees.

Has a successor to 1inchrist appeared? Will the forums be filled with HELLFIRE once more? :D

Choosing to live a life of faith is definately a road less traveled. But I just don't understand why peolple feel it's a threat to test their own beliefs against what the bible says? Nobody should feel it is being crammed down their throat...but why not test our own truths in light of scripture?
I just wish I had done it sooner in my journey called life. I feel more complete and made wholein accepting his word is true. Don't ask me how it works, God's ways are not are ways. I do believe he makes himself known to his people though many question Christians true motives! A heart that is opened to him and really seeking will definately be found.

I'm unafraid to test my beliefs against the Bible.

Belief: people who go out in the middle of nowhere, fast for inordinate lengths of time, and talk to demons are loonie.

Checking with Bible: [flip flip flip] Ah, Luke...

4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
4:2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.

Conclusion: According to my belief, Jesus was a loonie.

Christians love feeling persecuted. I think being a free-thinker is the road less traveled, because there are so many religions in the world. Don't forget "a life of faith" is also a life of faith in Allah, Yahweh, Zoroaster, Brahma, Jebus, Buddha, Ron Hubbard, etc.

A heart that is opened to him and really seeking will definately be found.

A heart opened to a broomstick will yield miracles also.

So ... have you tested your own beliefs against the Upanishads? How about the Dhammapada? Torah? Koran? Does that mean you feel that any of those religious books are a threat?

As a note, I find all 'revealed' words of god(s) equally silly and/or offensive. But if you're going to check one, check 'em all. At least try the monotheistic religions, if the Hindu pantheon or the Buddhist Nirvana is too far a trip for you.

Jesus was a gift. He is the only way to the Father, and it's not looney. Different , but not looney.
You think you know all things? Or does God know all things? There is a voice crying out but how many can hear him? Jesus still lives and yes I know even though my supernatural experience may be different than others,I blieve wholeheartedly. He changed me and my life for the better. I just wish you could know how awesome he is!

Oy.

Ok, I'm happy that you feel happy with worshipping a god who created you to burn in eternal hell unless you were lucky enough to hear tell of his purported son.

I wish you could know how awesome the Flying Spaghetti Monster is, but I'm not going to force it upon you, either.

No.

Or does God know all things?
Which God? Nevermind, my answer's no for any of em.

I just wish you could know how awesome he is!
I wish you could see how awesome not having to believe in fairy tales is.

Puss: Now that's irony.
