The imposition of clothing rules is just another form of controlling the population. With men, it's a demand that all have beards of a certain length.
The controller then can easily see who he is controlling.
Why women get the especially pernicious attention in Islam, that's a puzzlement.
There's many presumably Islamic women here wearing scarves. This brings attention to their (usually) fine featured faces.
Women were required to wear head coverings in the Catholic churches around the world. I don't know if that's still the rule.

True enough. But skimpy clothing would also be very suitable throughout much of the Middle East, as well as much of India and south-east Asia.

Only if you are prepared to put up with some serious cases of sunburn. Long lose clothing actualy does a fairly good job of keeping you cool.
