May 21, 2011 He's baaacckk!

Oct. 21, 2011 BOOM !

At least I'm happy for the billboard companies. Fools need to be separated from their monies to possibly learn a lesson, but I hate to see it happen to the poverty stricken fools who could use that money for practical purposes.

"You won't need any money or possessions when Jesus comes! So give it all to us!" :D

Shrug.... tax on the stupid.

I wonder why they'd set the date so specific and close though. Unless its a setup for Jehova's witnesses, V2.0

“The End Of The World Is Here Again”

Great news! I missed it last time. Is it a rerun of the original or a completely new production?

I recall a cartoon with two guys standing there wearing Eat At Joe's style body signs. One says, "The world will end tomorrow!" and the other, "The world will end August 1, 1978!". The former says to the latter, "The difference between our signs is I don't have to keep repainting mine."

Nonsense. I just finished reading "Beowulf" backwards in Urdu while tripping on PCP and found that the end of the world will take place on May 20, 2011.

What, the end of the world again? (sighs and reboots system) Remind me to reinstall this planet on Linux one of these days.

The Rapture is coming!!!!!! .....err..again....

Well, CBS News reported that yet another religion is warning us about yet another end-of-the-world rapture date that is coming. For whatever reason the date set is May 21, 2011.

Article:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/01/03/ap/national/main7207585.shtml?tag=mncol;lst;1

What gets me is this little quote from the guy who is the originator of this rapture claim:

"If May 21 passes and I'm still here, that means I wasn't saved. Does that mean God's word is inaccurate or untrue? Not at all," Warden said.

Which makes me stop and think: if this guy is so all-fired sure that the rapture is supposed to happen, and if he claims that if he's not taken because he wasn't "saved", then what then? Does he go about his life, raising his kids, going to work, watching the new Tron movie on DVD?

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the rapture was the end of the world. To me, it sounds like if he's not taken, he's saying "Whoops. The rapture happened but I wasn't good enough to attend. Well, I'll catch the next one......"

...am I missing something or what?

He's a "pre-trib" rapture type.

Link to tract that explains the line of reasoning: Judgment Day! May 21, 2011

...

TIMING OF IMPORTANT EVENTS IN HISTORY

...

2011 AD—On May 21st, Judgment Day will begin and the rapture (the taking up into heaven of God’s elect people) will occur at the end of the 23-year great tribulation. On October 21st, the world will be destroyed by fire (7000 years from the flood; 13,023 years from creation).

The only thing we can predict for certain regarding the date 5/21/11 is that it will immediately precede the date on which this wing-nut will start revising his prediction to explain his calculation error so that he can then figure the real date of the rapture

It seems to me that he's already thinking ahead after what he said about if he's still here on May 22nd.

Is the rapture like a bus? "Ooops. Missed it. Well, I have to look at the schedule....."

Saw a great big billboard for that here in California the othe day. Wasn't sure what it was all about, as the last EotW date I heard of was for 2012.

On May 22nd I think we should just tell these folks that the Rapture did happen. "Didn't you get to go? I'm an atheist, what's your excuse?"

Here is what happened before (from the wiki link upthread), and what is likely to happen again:

The sun rose on the morning of October 22 [1844] as on any other day, and October 22 passed without incident, resulting in feelings of disappointment among many Millerites. Henry Emmons, a Millerite, later wrote,

“I waited all Tuesday [October 22] and dear Jesus did not come;– I waited all the forenoon of Wednesday, and was well in body as I ever was, but after 12 o’clock I began to feel faint, and before dark I needed someone to help me up to my chamber, as my natural strength was leaving me very fast, and I lay prostrate for 2 days without any pain– sick with disappointment."
