The dreaded "A" word

Really? So what's the main topic? Interior decorating?

It could be. Or politics. Or the planning application in the village. Or the weather.

You simply don't read what people write, do you epix? If you do, you show terribly low levels of comprehension. So many atheist here have said that atheism is a non-subject, and religion is a non-subject. Most atheists, I'll bet, will NEVER discuss the subject at all, simply because in many societies no-one has the slightest interest in religion, or lack of religion. There'll be more conversations about the bus timetable than there ever would be about the utter irrelevence of people's beliefs or lack of beliefs.

Do I have the benefit of touching upon my experience with misnomer called "Religion and Philosophy" forum? It wouldn't be a misnomer if it were not for a terribly low level of reading comprehension on the part of you and some others. Here is an inequality you should be aware of: "Religion and Philosophy" ≠ "Propaganda of Atheism."

Why do you apparently feel so threatened by discussions of atheism, epix?

There is nothing in my previous post that would even slightly imply that "I feel threatened" by what you optimistically call "discussion of atheism." Do you really believe that I would feel threatened by some pointless, illogical musings? Stop fantasizing and rather focus on the exo-religious discussion that the atheists allegedly entertain themselves outside this "dedicated forum." How about . . . how about . . . Do you think that Jesus actually existed?

......."Religion and Philosophy" ≠ "Propaganda of Atheism."

Agreed. And your point is.......?

Count how many threads out of the first 30 in this forum which are in any way about atheism. I make it 9. Therefore, if atheism disturbs you so much, you have 21 other threads to play in which don't have a connection with atheism.

Let us know how you get on.

Yes, your previous posts demonstrate these "pointless, illogical musings" bother you quite a bit. Why is that?

I didn't have much trouble from a logical standpoint for calling myself an atheist. I have Prefix-Fu.

Nowadays, I don't like to say I am an atheist. I don't like labels for myself. Also, I don't like a lot of atheists, and I think a lot of organized atheism is bad or stupid.

No, they don't. It's not my fault that you can't figure out the simple meaning of the post in question. You should stop projecting your fears of being irreversibly infected by the theistic views on someone else.

What does "Prefix-Fu" mean?

epix, could you point to any threads you have started in say the last 6 months which aren't about atheism? Then come back to us about who is obsessed with discussing atheism. Thanks

Good question. :D

Oh, I'm the one who made this forum a monothema experience, right? (You shall not start any other topic...)

What do you expect me to do when the trumpets have been blown in unison? Do you think that unlike you, I wasn't aware of the name of the forum? The problem is that I'm not the mods to change things around and push them in the direction that the name of this forum suggests. Okay, Religion and Philosophy = Untamed Celebration of Atheism. Well, that's my infinite kindness - to support other people's favorite pastime. Lol.

I've been told that outside this "dedicated-to-atheism" forum, the atheists discuss other things than religion. So when I pepper that statement with a pinch of doubt, here comes a dedicated atheists saying that I have a problem reading what other atheists write. But I don't have the problem: "Religion and Philosophy" are topics NOT dedicated to atheism. After that, another dedicated atheist succumbs to a delusion that I feel threatened by atheism. Why would I? I don't live in North Korea.

Of course!

It stands to reason doesn't it, that anyone who would believe in something that cannot be proven, must necessarily be deficient in at least the power to reason?
The study very likely reflects upon the reality. But other studies say that there is no significant difference between the income of the atheists and the Christians. So I wonder how much busy the heavens got to offset the difference caused by the lower IQ. Since there are like billion of Christians worldwide, I kind of believe that God is actually almighty. That's another dreadful "A" word: Almighty.

There are about 8 Million Posts on the Forum. About 1 Million, or 12% of the total posts are in the Religion Forum.

And many of these are responses to people who spout off their religious beliefs and simply ask for comment, and many others are quite interesting discussions on Biblical exegesis.

Give us a detailed breakdown and analysis (look that word up in a dictionary) of the Board by topic/subject and related discussion, and I will listen to your "point" whatever it may be.

Regarding the adjective that also starts with A: aepervius. My take on the meaning was that it meant "perversely oblivious," but try as I might, I couldn't find it in the dictionary. Then I searched through the list of Roman generals - no luck either. So if "aepervius" doesn't exist, then it is God manifesting himself through the prism of atheism. So the word is atheistically logical and its meaning is infinitely non-existent.

Or more simply it is a kitchen-latin bastardisation of my favorite bird , and symbol I used in my youth : l'épervier : http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Épervier which I used initially, then changed in aepervius.

But hey, what beats your drum ;).

Btw, this forum has been dedicated to religion and philosophy. Speaking of which, do you have any idea what happened to the Roman Empire? Kind of disappeared from the map.
My co-worker in next cubicle is an atheist. Mostly we talk about work, sometimes about cars or children or lunch. Never about religion.

My girlfriend is an atheist. We talk about many things -- travel, books, food, work, children, children's colleges. Rarely about interior decoration. Never about religion.

My parents are atheists. They talk about politics, architecture, parties, travel. Almost never about religion.

I almost never talk about religion outside this subforum. Just like I rarely talk about astronomy outside astronomy forums.

Epix seems convinced that atheists are a monolithic bloc who all talk about same thing. We are not.
