The Dixie Chicks

I have a couple Dixie Chicks CDs. I also have Allison Krauss & Union Station, Bill Monroe, Ralph Stanley, Seldom Scene, Earl Scruggs, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, and several hundred others that range from country/bluegrass to goth/industrial. So what?
Any opera?

Well, how come we're not boycotting Willie Nelson? Johnny Cash? John Prine? Waylon Jennings? Kris Kristofferson (Django's Castle, Blame it on the stones...)...

How come we're only suposed to boycott the "chicks" who dare to have a brain in their heads?

I think we can all figure that 'un out.
Don't forget Springsteen. Even Minnesota's republican governor wouldn't boycott him, nor would Tim Sigler, a "heavy pro-lifer," (Googled but article expired) who fronts a Springsteen cover-band.

The funny thing is, after all that wailing and gnashing of teeth, you arrive at the same place I've been since the beginning.
Actually, I haven't changed my position. I've only shown a willingness to listen to other positions. No wailing. No gnashing.

If you think my response to Nick's non-theory was too confrontatory[sic], then I suggest you find someone else to talk to or employ the ignore feature so you can continue to suffer fools gladly.
LOL. No, just playing net nanny to get people to play nice. And because I like to hear other points of view even if they are confrontational to mine, I never put anybody on ignore. Not even the fools.

Uh oh. Now they're really in trouble. They won't be appearing on The View, whose hosts make claims to launching their career.

Check out the behavior of the new co-host of The Today Show...
"We are furious!" roared "View" moderator Meredith Vieira in the opening moments of the show, "Furious!"
...
"This is obnoxious, obnoxious," said Vieira. "We started these girls - back in 1998, they couldn't get arrested. We were one of the first national shows to give them a platform, because they deserve a platform - they are incredibly talented performers."
I thought that kind of peevishness was usually reserved for off-camera -- or Howard Stern.

I guess a lot of people didn't notice this part at the end of the article?

the article said:
For the next hour, the four hosts of the women's coffee klatch show repeatedly slammed the Dixie Chicks until the show was over - when Vieira made it clear they were joking around and invited The Dixie Chicks to appear anytime.

I thought about this a little more -- I was bored, ok? -- and I think the circumstances surrounding their opinions is also what lead to the backlash.

How many of the musicians Cleon listed had their first political opinion heard while in another country and not in a form of a song or participating in a concer of some political significance?

Johnny Cash started playing music, including writing "Folsom Prison Blues," when he was stationed in Germany.
Steve Earle does worldwide tours regularly.
Kris Kristofferson went to Nicaragua repeatedly in the 1980s to play at Sandinista events. (In fact, I believe he still does.)

That's just what comes to mind off the top of my head.

I'm sure the fact that they were in Britain played a role, but I doubt it was that major.

Yes, like I said, they did it not in the form of music or associated with a political concert. :P

I think had they written a song instead or played one of them lefty concerts(not sure what would qualify as one) it would be different.

Yeah, it would've been worse. ;)

Seriously...What do you base that opinion on?
