The DeSantis gambit

Build A prison next of Disney, you also build it next to Universal Studios, and every other major attraction in Orlando.
De Santis is just plain studpid, and getting desperate. He has picked a fight he cannot win.

A prison or Disneyworld? Hmmmm...which does Ronnie think the people of FL would support? Which brings in more money and jobs?

He's an idiot.

Yeah kill off Disneyworld it won't effect your state much at all..

But the sheer number of jobs, and tax revenue connected to Disney World, casts a long shadow in the halls of state government. A 2019 study found Disney dominates the Central Florida tourism industry, according to Oxford Economics, and produced:

$75.2 billion annual economic impact for Central Florida.
463,000 jobs.
$5.8 billion in additional state tax revenue.
The sales tax collected just on the 58 million Disney World tickets sold in 2018 was $409 million. That’s more than what the state will spend this year on school construction and maintenance or the entire Department of Elder Affairs budget.

Ronnie thinks he's David with a slingshot.

There is one thing about De Santis which I like, which is that he is a possible alternative to Trump for the Republican nomination. Yes, I know it's a low bar.

I don't think DeSantis would be much better than Trump. Get him in the WH with a GOP House and/or Senate and watch the monkey poo hit the fan.

They both scare the crap out of me. Both are racist misogynistic pigs. Both have an authoritarian bent.

Ron keeps on trying to Mess With The Mouse, and it keeps backfiring on him.
There is a reason that "Don't Mess Around With The Mouse" is one of the basic rules of doing business in Hollywood.

Because you don't actually understand the bill, or the motivation behind it.

Is there actually some kind of high-minded principle at work here?

And when I say principle, I mean something that would persuade anyone who hasn’t had their brain marinaded in culture war nonsense.

Im not trying to convince you he's right. I'm not suggesting you would agree with him. I'm suggesting that you don't understand him. That doesn't depend on him being, as you say, "high minded". This idea that be just hates gays so much that he would care about Disney holding a pride event doesn't really check out.

Well, calling him Ron shows where your poitical sympathy lies.

Does it? And what does it say about Frank and Norman that they called him Ron too?

You're reading into this far more than actually exists.

DeSantis has gone off script. Culture wars are supposed to be a way to distract voters from their pro-big business and pro-1% policies. Now DeSantis is attacking business to fight a culture war.

It is you who doesn't understand. DeSantis wouldn't get mad Disney held a Pride Night or whatever. He'd be mad they would show him up like that. He's too much a sociopath to love or hate anyone. DeSantis isn't concerned about gay people or trans people any more than he is concerned about anyone not named Ron DeSantis.

What upsets him is the fact that anyone would contradict him. He thinks that is what makes him look weak.

Like what? A pride night doesn't show him up.

Having a pride night doesn't contradict him. He never staked anything on them not doing that.

And has already been pointed out by others, this pride night isn't even in Florida, it's in California. This isn't being done to stick it to DeSantis.

This is the closest you've been able to come to giving us your version of what the "Don't Say Gay" bill does and the motivations behind it, but it's still not an answer.

Come on, you love to pose as being so much smarter than the rest of us, prove it! Dazzle us with your superior understanding!

And please let it be better than your "DeSantis wasn't going after Disney, he was just being fair" nonsense that ignores DeSantis's own statements of motivation.

Because you don't actually understand the bill, or the motivation behind it.
 Yes we do. We also understand how Disney (and it's lawyers) out--smarted the attempt by the Republicans to disempower the corporation.

It's frankly hilarious how vindictive, incompetent and downright stupid the DeSantis regime is.

Like what? A pride night doesn't show him up.

It would. Remember, he is doing the "War on Woke" to distract from his disastrous policies.

Having a pride night doesn't contradict him. He never staked anything on them not doing that.

Something something something family values something something Disney hates conservatives blah blah blah something something "wokism"

And has already been pointed out by others, this pride night isn't even in Florida, it's in California. This isn't being done to stick it to DeSantis.

Hence, I said "would". Disney gives a lukewarm statement acknowledging trans people exist and he loses his ****, tries to completely rewrite the agreement Florida has with Disney, and hand Floridians a few billion dollar tax bill. You're telling me a Pride Night wouldn't draw a negative reaction from that fake tough guy?
