The Death Penalty: Chinese style.

It's not just that they use capital punishment, it's the types of offenses that they justify its use for, such as bribery over $14,000 and drug dealing.

That's not uncommon, even in non-atheist capitalist countries.

Of course, I find this all highly ironic, as Christians in Africa want to make homosexuality eligible for the death penalty. I daresay we won't see a condemnation from you.

Life seems to be much cheaper in atheistic Communist countries which is why I think Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot killed so many millions and millions of people. Atheistic Communism might have started with good intentions but there is a dark side that needs to be examined.

Based on your threads in the history forum, I'm aware that history is not your strong suit. However, since I'm fairly well-versed in the history of Europe when various Christian churches were controlling political affairs, I give you the following laughing dog:

Some people wanting it to happen and it happening are two different things.

And of course I denounce the death penalty for people who choose to commit homosexual acts just as I denounce it for people who choose to commit adulterous acts.

So I guess you feel the close to 600,000 hits my "Evidence for why we know the New Testament Writers told the truth" thread received were by people who just like reading my alleged illogical incoherent posts.

And once again my threads are not about me, but I guess if people keep trying the ad hom approach then I have the right to respond.

Do you not see any contradiction between boasting about the number of hits "your" threads have received and complaining that they are "not about you"?

So your main complaint is not that they kill. But that they kill for the wrong reasons.

Got it!.

You pose an important question. I think a real answer to the question lies in the varied combination of Jingoism, scapegoating, meglomania and Moral absolutism.

You convince a group of people that their problems are the result of another group of people and that they have a morally absolute/superior position to those they fight, it becomes very easy to see how such atrocities occur.

Nazi Germany convinced the population that the Jews were to blame and that god was on their side.

Stalin convinced the population that the government WAS god and gave absolute moral authority to the government.

Pol Pot's crimes against humanity were a mix of racism and communist moral authority of government.

The castration of children by the Catholic church is also an example of the problems that occur when one mixes moral absolutism with positions of power.

I do not know enough of the conditions regarding Darfur to know what the primary cause was of those attrocities.

Please, permit me to revise this for you...

It's not just that they use capital punishment, it's the types of offenses that they justify its use for, such as apostasy and heresy. Life seems to be much cheaper in religious countries which is why I think the Christians, Muslims, Hindus, and Sikhs have killed so many millions and millions of people. Theocracy might have started with good intentions but there is a dark side that needs to be examined.

Two can play at that game, DOC.
For the record, I reject the argument that religion causes good people to do bad things*, for reasons explained here.
(* in this guise, the argument is that atheism causes people to bad things, but the meaning is the same)

So I guess you feel the close to 600,000 hits my "Evidence for why we know the New Testament Writers told the truth" thread received were by people who just like reading my alleged illogical incoherent posts.

DOC, this is an instance where the following would be appropriate...

Also, please respond to the rest of my post. You know, the part you excised. The part where I pre-emptively eviscerate the argument you attempted to make. And I note you still haven't clarified what your point actually is.

Actually, life is cheap in overpopulated countries, regardless of politics. India, for instance. The book Sick to Death, described the attitude of many Indians who couldn't understand why an Indian doctor in Australia was in so much hot water just because his rampant malpractice killed a number of patients. Of course some of them died, that's what happens in a hospital!

Which raises the question: do you denounce the death penalty for people who choose to commit adulterous acts? I only see you saying you denounce both equally, but not to what extent you denounce them.

Of couirse, I would probably only give the death penalty for people who premeditately kill many people. I think society needs to take a stand on these types of multiple murders.

Mojo,
You cannot take gunderscored as a epitome of moral standards. The behavior demonstrated in his propaganda book shows him as rather capricious. If the Big Guy™ can't even keep all the rules straight, how can we Puny Mortals be expected to get it right?

Randolph Churchill is reported to have said something about gunderscored's behaviour as described in the Bible, but the autocensor won't allow me to quote it.

Operative weasel word highlighted. So actually you condone the death penalty for many more crimes but you're afraid to say so?

Just let the autocensor do it's job. WE can suss out what the asterisks are supposed to be.

What's this? A late bumping? Did DOC's thread reach the bottom of page 1 again?

DOC: As long as you're bumping your thread, would you mind actually replying to my post?

And don't say you already did. You did not. You intentionally omitted most of my post, in an effort to make it look like you provided an answer. That's dishonest.

Here, I'll quote my post (in full) below:

DOC: Is your argument in this thread that China uses capital punishment because it's not Christian enough?

If so, the notion is shown for the absurd non-starter it is by the fact that Christian scripture supports capital punishment, and the Catholic Church supports capital punishment based on scriptures, and that you yourself support capital punishment due to your Christianity.

If not, then why on earth are your bringing your god-bothering into this discussion?

Do YOU even know what your topic was going to be?

I am ever more convinced that this thread, like your "Babies named Muhammed" thread and others of its ilk exists purely to serve your xenophobic narcissism.

To be blunt, DOC, if you're not going to bother explaining what the topic of this thread is, while continuing to necro it every time it reaches the bottom of page 1, I'm going to ask the mods to lock it. This is behaviour you've been warned about in the past.

How many is "many"? Two? Twenty? Two hundred? What makes the death of just one person more acceptable than the death of multiple people?

To me it is more serious to kill two people than to kill one. I think society has to draw the line somewhere, but that's up to a jury. I definitely think that guy in Norway who killed 65 or what ever the number was deserves the death penalty.

Heck, Eisenhower approved of a US soldier getting the firing squad for desertion during War World 2. He drew the line at a very serious time during the war.
