I was thinking this was another shot from "Frowning Ladies with Phones", one in a series of ultra-lifelikes by little-known photographer Salvador Dahlia.

Well perhaps, but can you think of a good reason to spy on the leader of one of the US's strongest supporter in Europe? Because I can't.

Isn't that one of those scam explosives detectors?

I think the inventor is already in jail.

The French used to actively try to collect intelligence on us when I was in the Middle East. About nine/ten years ago.

It was no secret.

I note that W wasn't ever found holding a phone and frowning like a nitwit over the issue.

Just sayin'

Enlighten me. And I said good reason.

Well the most obvious one that springs to my mind is that it allows you to know exactly what they are up to. Just because their diplomats say one thing to your face doesn't mean they aren't saying other things behind closed doors. Spying on them allows for you to have accurate information in what they are up to when you need to deal with them rather than just relying on the face value of what they tell you.
