The hyperactive Tony Abbott seems to like making a statement of stunt a day. Why not catalogue them here. They are invariably stupid or wrong.

To start:- By removing the Carbon Tax, power prices will instantly fall 10%.

No, completely wrong.

TONY ABBOTT says his policy to repeal the carbon tax would ''instantly'' reduce household electricity bills by 10 per cent but the Minister for Climate Change, Greg Combet, says this, like ''everything'' the Coalition leader has said about climate change, is ''complete ********''.
And energy retailers are warning the price reduction would not be ''instant'' but would take some time, even after the lengthy process required to repeal the tax with a double dissolution election.
''If the carbon price was repealed, customers would not see an instant decrease in their energy bills,'' a spokeswoman for the Electricity Retailers Association said. ''Legislative changes and regulatory reviews would have to take place prior to changes in the price. Retailers would then need to review their pricing and notify customers.
''With customers on different types of contracts, this would impact customers' bills differently. The carbon component of the wholesale price, which retailers pass on to customers, involves energy from a range of sources - such as coal, gas, hydro and wind - all with different carbon intensities.''

Tony Abbott promises a million jobs. When you look at the details, it's like promising the sun will rise tomorrow.

So how "ambitious" (to use Warren Truss's words when introducing the book) is Mr Abbott's target?
Now firstly, any desire to create jobs is to be applauded, but when throwing around numbers, it is always good to get some context. For instance, creating over a million jobs over a five-year period is not an unusual occurrence. It occurred first during the Hawke government and again during the Howard government. It has also occurred during the period of which the Rudd/Gillard Government was largely in power - from March 2007 to March 2012, 1.002 million jobs were created:

Thank you for this thread! Can we put stuff in general about the LNP in too?

I just heard Abbott's presser in London. I can't find a transcript, but talk about cringe! He spoke about seeing Westminster Abbey and feeling he "belonged".

Please take him poms.

Sometimes he lies outright and sometimes he's just too lazy/arrogant to ensure that he knows the facts before commenting. He's demonstrated this time and time again:

ETA: I love how he says he was busy doing "... very important things for the people of Australia, here in this country right now." lol!

It's an oldie but a goodie...

Asked whether or not there will be an emissions trading scheme under a L-NP government, Tony says:

"Well, the world is running away from an emissions trading scheme at a million miles an hour ..."

Hard to believe that sad creature believes it could one day take the place of our current, greatest ever Prime Minister.

Funny though, in the perverse way that the delusions of others always are.

And where do they get off saying the governbment was "hyperventilating" about the LNP using the courts to subvert democracy just days after spending the final sitting week of parliament accusing the PM of corruption over events from 20 years ago. Such a shameless act, they treat the Australian people like idiots
