The consequences of drug abuse

http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0025/0025_01.asp

Ok we have a wide eyed kid getting talked into doing and selling dope. he gets caught and sent to prison sodomized and then he gets aids. He gets saved and goes to heaven. Very dark evil Chick tract.

I'm a big fan of Chick's comics and tracts. While I generally disagree with the religious and political stands he takes in them, I admire his skill as a comics writer.

But since this thread is in Social Issues rather than in History, Literature, and The Arts, I assume it's the content of the tract rather than the artistry of it which you're interested in discussing.

So: what in particular about the contents of this tract are you interested in discussing?

That's a consequence of drug prohibition, he wouldn't have been sent to prison in the first place if we treated 'dope' as a medical, not a criminal, issue.

haha why is the cop a gay pirate?

Well, statistically there is probably something around a 1 in 3 shot of running into one of the shift peg-legs (really, ...isn't "gay" and "pirate" a bit redundant when speaking of "cops"?).

basically its the facial expressions of the drug users when he's high that i find hilarious.

The accuracy is pure alarmist. 3 months later 'its aids'? Get real mr chic

They could've detected the presence of HIV in that time, but to go from infection to AIDS in three months, and death in six months, two days is ridiculous.

So I guess saying there's a bit of biker in there would be more redundant.

Nah, but those few, confused young men need more help than the pirates and the barneys combined.

(again, hopefully no one is taking my commentary too seriously)

So do drugs and go to heaven? Doesn't sound so bad.

The message seems to be that when you're hooked on the temptations of life and totally strung out, along comes the Real Kingpin who offers you a way to the next level, if only you do exactly as he says and pay with your soul. In other words, no different than all the drug dealers and prison inmates.

Pretty evil, really.

The fact that the tract is named "TRUST ME!" and that the person who says "Trust me!" in the comic is the undercover cop, sort of makes it seem like the moral of the story is not to trust smelly people with lots of money, because they might be undercover cops.

It always amazed me how Jack Chick manages to fail delivering the most simple of messages.
