BTW, MaGZ' OP was more or less operating under the assumption that the story was leaked by someone with an interest in the demise of Cain's campaign. That point of view is actually consistent with the allegations (and leaking of them to the press) being part of a smear campaign.

Cain is beginning to annoy some on the right by playing the race card:

This is reprehensible, the sort of racial inflammation that, when practiced by the left, infuriates conservatives. Who is he accusing of racism — the Politico reporters? The women who made the claims in the 1990s? The media for covering allegations that he admitted were true (e.g., his employer settled at least one sexual harassment claim)?

Cain and his defenders, like actors in a theatrical tragedy, are falling prey to the very evil they labored against: the propensity to assign political identity by race and to invoke race to shield one from personal responsibility. Cain is in trouble because he didn’t handle a past claim that even a political novice would know would come to light.

BTW, I would hard call Politico a "left-wing" operation. If anything I get the overall impression of a center-right bias. They go after scandals involving democrats with at least equal zeal, and they bent over backwards to give the Cain campaign time to respond to the story (10 days) before going public with it.

Seems like Perry at the moment. It could always be someone else or even someone not connected to any candidate but with a grudge against Cain. Though if that was the case you would think this would have come out much sooner and not at the moment where Cain takes the lead in most polls. It just seems all too convenient that this comes out now and one of the potential leekers joined Perrys campaign at almost exactly the same time Politico started this "investigation"/"expose". And despite anything that comes of this it won't help Perry in the end. He doesn't have a chance.

You could be right. In my limited experience working in restaurants, they have to have one of the highest rates of sexual harassment of any industry. I don't think they want that pandora's box opened.

Perry is a dimbulb, but the, so was Bush the Lesser. Staffers had to do a lot of the real crerative work.

One of Perry's staffers was highly-placed within the restruant association when the harrassment issue was being handled.
