I don't rule it out at all.

The idea of the affection for the Telegenic White Guy is not a new concept at all. It's been very common in pro sports for who knows how long. I don't know how you can rule that out here.

Deliberate? Not really, but cultural or systematic? Yeah, I can see it.
 
My wife, a huge Women's basketball fan, just pointed out the Iowa women's team has four or five Afro American players.
WHole thing is ridiculous.
 
Now with it looking like Israel is about to make a large scale military incursion into Lebanon, I think it will reach the "Crisis that cannot be ignored " stage.

But the Bidens are not part of pro-sports and never have been so your point there is irrelevant.
The Bidens have a long history of support for our Black citizens and it's reflected in their support of them.

Exactly. There are most definitely cases where racism, either conscious or subconscious, influence things. But this just isn't one of them.
 
Can I just ask why sports teams get invited to the White House at all? Why should the President give a flying **** who won some professional national sports tournament? Isn't the fame and fortune that's already heaped on such people enough for them?

I'd add that it's probably tradition born out of political calculation to make the leadership feel closer to the people. There's probably not much in the way of reason to stop at present and distinct reason to continue. Gaining connections to and the positive impressions of people who are popular and influential in non-political ways is generally counted as a good thing in politics with no real downsides, after all.

I think it's just silly. But then again, I don't give a rat's patootie about any sports.

On this side of the pond, we're going to have a bunch of conservatives rushing to discover what rugby is and why saying "black and tans" vs "all blacks" is a big deal (probably without noticing that at least Biden didn't say the Irishman was a member of the notorious Black and Tans), a bunch of Americans who only know of a black and tan as a drink they see on St Paddy's Day, and likely the vast, vast majority not even hearing about it.

Lots of people do. That is why President's like to be seen with Champion atheltes.
It is totally harmless and I don't get why people make a fuss about it other then snobbery.
 
If you want proof of how popular sports are in DC, the Nation's capital, the poltical news has been pushed aside for the news of the impending sale of DC's NFL team (formally known as the Redskins) to a new group of owners.
 
Biden now might have a problem in the Sudan with Americans trapped there. He evacuated US officials on Saturday but now has to get civilians out.
Though I think they showed bad judgement in going to the Sudan in the first place. For over two decades it has been on the State Departments Level 4 advisory which means "Don't go to this country if you value your life".
Yeah, I know most of them were working for NGO Humanitarian groups, but that does no mean they did not show bad judgement. Yes, they had good intentions but we all know what the road to Hell is paved with.
Sudan is hopeless. a totallly failed state.
