The Biblical Realities of Hell

Edge's Return...

It is made apparent by all of Edge's other posts that he doesn't possess the reasoning power to effectively debate his position.

So let me see if I have this right... when humans die, the saved go and praise God for eternity, and everyone else goes into storage (suspended animation?) for 1000 years, at which time they're brought back to life in the first resurrection; then some other stuff happens, after which there's a second resurrection?

So what happens between the first and second resurrections, and after the second resurrection?

I'm not grasping the point the OP is trying to make.

I endured billions of years of nonexistence before I was born the first time. It never once bothered me in the slightest.

Why would not existing for a thousand years and then being resurrected be a problem? Which part am I supposed to be afraid of, the thousand years or the being resurrected?

The thousand-hear heavenly internship for the faithful sounds at least equally frightening. Doing what, exactly?

Respectfully,
Myriad

People in here who are confused about hell, I think this makes it clear and it is what I have been saying about it.

So when Jesus said this generation shall not pass till you see me coming in the clouds is what is being reported by NDEs.

In Matthew it says: 34Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

Be careful about what you think is total peace and nothingness, what you wish it to be, it doesn't last.

Edge runs and gets his sheild for those firey darts!:boxedin:

Not nearly scary enough. The Abyss from the forgotten realms is a hell of a lot scarier than that.

There, you don't even know what is going on, and there is a very real chance of having ones soul actually consumed. Not to mention that even if you do worship one of the gods that rules down there, they have this nasty tendancy of ******* with you and just torturing you anyway.

Your story has a lot of catching up to do with modern myths, hell, at the very least seems predictable. A place, that is more unpleasant and more random, by far beats your paltry eternal punishment.

You know something? Not necessarily. I consider it exceedingly unlikely that an afterlife exists, but not utterly impossible.

What I do consider impossible, is that an all-loving God will condemn anyone to eternal suffering merely for the crime of not believing in him.

Or, rather, I consider it possible, but if so, such a God is so cruel and evil He simply doesn't deserve to be worshipped.

But again, I don't for a minute believe God, if He exists, would be so cruel.

I wonder the same thing.
I think the message in the O.T. was set straight in the N.T...

It is possible that he had to learn how to deal with us as we are this new creation, there would be unknowns about anything that is created.

I can see his frustration because of what we do especially to each other; I think we are the only ones that kill each other, besides lower primates.
Brains equal, sin, greed, lust, envy, ect...

So you think God isn't perfect, since he had to learn how to deal with us?

Not only that, he's frustrated (what an un-godlike emotion) with us--his own creations, supposedly made in his image?

Seems to me he's a pretty incompetent creator.

A few more questions if you don't mind.

Let me summarize to see if I got this right.

Essentially in the end you are saying that everyone that has led a basically good life will be resurrected and find out that Jesus is God after all.

Am I right.

If so...

1. Why believe in any God?

You don't have any actual proof of God (s) and according to you it doesn't really matter what you believe but rather your acts. Ergo, belief is unnecessary.

2. What if you are wrong?

I am sure you believe with all your heart but in the end you have to admit that you could be wrong. This, by the way, is something that is true for all of us, those that believe and those that don't.

However...

What if God (s) are mutually exclusive, IE... believing in the wrong one gets you damned?

Someone who is atheist or agnostic can at least claim to have been neutral (ish) while someone worshiping the wrong God (s) is going to get it in the shorts.

3. Why bother with history?

If God is all powerful, why all this suffering and death, etc. Yes, I know we are supposed to have free will, but if God can see the future, and therefore the results of all our actions... why not skip to the end and avoid all the nasty bits in between. When someone is born, God should already know if he's good or bad... worth or unworthy. Ergo... paradise now would be appropriate.

Don't you think?

Good or bad will be resurrected.

The rest of your premise doesn't follow for me.

If I am wrong then: Myriad says:
I endured billions of years of nonexistence before I was born the first time. It never once bothered me in the slightest.
And this
Why would not existing for a thousand years and then being resurrected be a problem? Which part am I supposed to be afraid of, the thousand years or the being resurrected?
You were put in that sleep because you'll have to face the final judgment because of non-belief and what ever else someone does horribly wrong, sin....
If I am wrong then we won't know anything in the end about who's right or wrong, so I can agree with you there, seems pretty unlikely from MPOV and experiences though.

I think it’s kind of like telling your child not to put their finger into a flame, but they do it anyway, you knew they were going to do it and usually they do.

The question is what did they learn?
Did they learn not to put their finger in the flame or to listen to guidance in the future or both?

You don’t know till that next candle is lit because it’s a child.

People that believe in Christ and do the right thing are resurrected upon death the unbelievers are not, they are in nonexistence, this is what the skeptics believe.
Then Judgement. Then?

Then? Then according to you and those who agree with you, your dick of a god sends the non-believers, his own creations, whom he knowlingly gave an intelligent mind that could doubt and question, to burn in eternal punishment.

Or am I wrong?

It's one possibility.
The flood is one instance that he was frustrated then relented, at least according the Hebrews.
Wouldn't you be frustrated?
Look at what we do we're the incompetent ones.

I may be frustrated, or you. But we're not gods. We're not supposed to be perfect, omniscient, omnipotent, and all-loving. So you're saying God isn't either?

Hell is for suckers. If you are a good Pastafarian, you get stripper factories and beer volcanos. If not... flat beer.

(Hey, it's no less likely than that "bible" stuff.)

Your wrong.
No need to be insulting and that kind of language is not appropriate.

It's also the ones who think they are right with God and say they believe but really don't and do not follow the teachings.

I can't tell you if he does or doesn't.
Not till later.
It is most likely that there are those even after the question is answered will still embrace evil, maybe like Hitler, those souls would need separation from the commonsensical souls of people who are morally good.

If God wants to burn them in the pit well then, what are you going to do?
The bible says eternity but we really have no concept of that.

If there were really a baptism by fire as Jesus stated, and if he wasn’t being sarcastic, then ten minutes of our time in the pit to change a mind set that is totally evil would seem like an eternity over there since time is irrelevant.
Maybe it’s a way to keep us in line as much as possible, like a threat to spank you but as we know that usually doesn’t happen till you break a major law and you are in front of a judges desk, punishment as in laws have degrees according to what law was broken.

I don’t think that not believing is totally evil, because of the haziness of it all?
You might only have to clean toilets for a while up there, for a thousand earth years, no one knows for sure.

But N.D.Es seem to indicate there is no middle ground.
Which would would follow scripture.

Christ proved that we can be perfect even here.
We get better as we get older, time factor, then we are truly humbled at the point of our death.

OK, sorry about the "dick." Maybe we can agree on "cruel despot" instead. I respect him not one bit more.

I threaten my dog with a belt when he doesn't listen, only because I used it once, it mostly scared him because he was a big fluff ball as a puppy, Couldn’t have him peeing in the house, he had no concept about in or out to do that at the time, but any way I never spanked him again, the threat is enough, and I would never spank him again, but he doesn't know that.:D

All I have to do now is point to my belly and he listens, he knows it unlatches there.
His fur was a giant pad, you couldn’t penetrate, I think it was more about reaching him from a distance when he thought he was safe.
