"That one"

Obama had been comparing Mcain with Bush as far as voting records through the debate followed by saying Mcain had voted no on the energy bills. He was directly responding to the latter and it looked like he was answering the question "Guess which one of us voted against this energy bill because it was full of pork?" That one. Makes the most sense in context of the debate leading up to that statement.

It gets worse. Remember how McCain prefaced his comment with the lines, "Maybe you never heard of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae," or words to that effect when answering the young black gentleman's question. Turns out that the young man probably has a better education than McCain. Thom Hartmann made a reference to the gentleman's FaceBook page this morning.

Does Gramps have some problem relating to young educated black people? Does he see them as a threat to his dignity?

Does he think them "uppity?"
 
I think that the context and tone implies that the comment was made with malice...the malice that someone with McCain's temper would feel for any opponent. But I don't believe there was an implied racial slur.

I do want one of the Tshirts. "This one is voting for That one!"

I, too, thought that was extremely weird. Anyone whose bought a home would know of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.

I've had mortgages with WM, Chase, Wells Fargo and insurance with American Family and Farmers. I don't recall those two names in the proccess. I know the names only through following financial and political news.

Seriously? each time I bought and sold a home, the mortgage agent discussed the backing issue and to not be surprized if the mortgage holder changes at some point.

Correct, but no one said anything about freddy and fannie being the reason..... or maybe it didn't seem important.

'that one' in the context of the preceding statement was a rhetorical tool for dramatic effect; it did not strike me as a very big deal.

I didn't see it as racist but it seemed disrespectful, especially since he almost never looked at Obama. Obama on the other hand was poised, polite, and looked like he wanted to really interact. The two different approaches highlighted the most important difference in these two candidates: temperment. Obama displayed the temperment of an effective leader who tries to gain concensus by first highlighting where there can be agreement and then dealing with the disagreements. McCain came off as stubborn, petty, and unmovable.
