Thank God for Evil.

I'll post and run again,
I'll post and run again-an-an-an-an-an,
Cuz I just run away,
won't post twice in one day,
but you'll be replying, again and again!

(to the tune of ELO's "On the Run Again," heard in this odd little video)

Beatles, actually.

or Elton John.....can never keep that straight. Oh, well, no wonder. ;)

Evil is a societal construct used to explain actions and events which cause harm or pain. There is actually no such thing as "evil" or "good" in the "black and white" sense.

I beg to differ. Mayonnaise is most definitely evil and most definitely white.

It's not white if it's home made. Then it tends to be a light brownish colour, depending on the mustard and egg yolks.

And it's not evil. It doesn't cause pain and suffering. Celine Dion, on the other hand... :p

"Celine Dion" is sub-class of "mayonnaise".

I keep on picturing a big jar of mayonaise with a giant nose protruding from one of the sides when I see this post.

EDIT: No, wait, for some reason Barbara Streisand came to mind. Yeeck.

You're saying evil is a thing? A force of some kind?
Or are you really thankful for evil Acts? If your god is perfect, then I guess he knew we needed evil? Or did evil get created the same time god did?

Some use evil as a noun and I do her but evil as a noun cannot stand alone. Without further explanation if I were to say I saw an evil, without further explanation, you would have no idea what I was talking about. Evil what, in other words.

I prefer evil as an adjective and place it at one end of a bell curve with good at the other end.
This is why God places evil on the tree of good and evil.
All things can then be measured as to there good or evil position.
It is to us to place them in their rightful position.

As to when, you would need to ask God for that answer.

Was the experience of weightlessness necessary for us to know gravity?
Why would anyone worship a God who requires evil to implement His plan?

Weightlessness was not required but it's counterpart weight was. Good and it's counterpart evil.
Because without knowledge of good and evil, all we would have is instincts. There is no topic or issue that does not have good and evil aspects. Try to think of something.

Halleluah! Thank god for rapes, murders, stealing, torture, war, manipulation, racism, sexism, fraud! Thank god for Katrina, for World War II, for Hitler, for Stalin, for Hiroshima, for Nagasaki, for Iwo Jima! Thank god for all those soldiers lives lost, thank god for Gauntamo Bay, thank god for those suffering in Iraq, thank god for all their glorious lives in their quest for truth and knowledge!

Yes, definate boons for humanity in it's quest to learn and grow.

Oh yes, what wonderful gifts from GOD we have here! I mean, this is the perfect environment to find a perfectly GOOD god. I mean, it's not like we couldn't find a perfectly good God in a good world, or understand how to learn with completely good intentions only!

Halleluah!

This is like the rationalization that abusive husbands make to their wives. "Sorry baby, but you gotta learn!" *Slap!*

Without the knowledge of good and evil, you would not know what to put on your list or that you even had to make one.
Thanks for proving my point.

Pi is definitely evil. Cake, on the other hand, is GOOD.

...because....sex is evil? Are you a Puritan?

Hardly. It just happens to have both aspects. Sometimes good and sometimes better and sometimes bad.
In the Garden though, they would not have it because of the aspects of good and evil.

The dictionary does show it as a noun as well as an adjective but I agree that it is better as an adjective. As a noun it means nothing without clarification.

Please define this word "good" and that other one, "evil." Then, show how that are inextricably linked to all issues and without understanding them, nothing can learned, because I've seen quite a few babies learn to walk and speak without knowing good or evil.
