The rape exception always seemed a bit incoherent to me.

If the fetus is a life that has inalienable rights, what difference does it make how it came to be?

I can see why, as a political tactic, rape and incest and other exemptions have been carved out, but they don't actually make much philosophical sense.

Hopefully this helps drive backlash for this truly reprehensible garbage.

Maybe, maybe not. He probably would have tried something, which is more than many can say.

Getting slapped down by the conservative SCOTUS after abusing executive power trying to protect women's healthcare rights is a better way to lose than just rolling over without a fight.

Because like everything else the Right does being inconsistent works in the favor. The more controversial/emotionally laden topics they can pile in the cart with abortion, the better.

Agreed. It shows the hypocrisy behind these anti-choice laws. Unless the Bible Thumpers think a baby conceived by rape/incest is somehow undeserving of life because of the 'sins of the father' being visited upon it. :rolleyes:
 
Of course, not that this law would actually negatively impact any of the lawmakers signing it. The second their unmarried daughter or mistress has a whoopsie they're on the first flight to California to have it quietly taken care of.

This is only going to impact Texans too poor to spend the time and money to get out of this backwards state to get proper medical care.

So report them anytime they send a daughter out of state, that is certainly in the spirit of this law.

Those generally never stay under the radar for too long in todays' age, and if they do that they're still going to have to cough up the dough when caught.

Hopefully a few more well off folks, who are pro-choice, decide to take this into their own hands. A good investigative reporter, and a lawyer working hand in hand might turn out to be pretty devastating.

I think one of the things that got looked over the most in this case by the politicians pushing it into law is that they've brought unwanted attention to their love lives. Every liberal reporter or PI is going to want the chance to blast the hypocrisy here.

Someone needs to tells Surburban Turkey is that these is nothing that Biden can do about it.he has no control over state legislation;it's all up to the courts.
 
Having to pay the court fees for the person that is suing you, plus them getting the $10k is going to flood the courts. I wonder how much evidence will be required.

The only upside to this is that the people who are able to sue do not have the powers of law enforcement behind them. It's going to be exceedingly difficult for them to prove, even with civil court having lower standards than "beyond a reasonable doubt".
