Texas bans abortion.

Anti Abortion has nothing to do with the babies and everything to do with creating a dependency.

Get in the ear of a mother-to-be and succeed and you've got more space filled in your pews and hey wouldn't you know it this politician up for re-election shares our faith, We saved you from killing that little gift and we helped with diapers and food so I'm sure you wouldn't mind returning the favor at the polls.

If Republicans or Evangelicals gave a **** about avoiding abortions, they would make sure there is great sexual education in school and easy access to birth control and female health care.
But since the point is to point at someone you don't like and shout "baby murderer!" , they won't do what would actually prevent abortions.
That is the argument folks should be discussing here. Outlawing abortion doesn't accomplish less abortions. We have a long history demonstrating that. But the GOP doesn't want to decrease abortions. They want the single-issue voters to vote for them so they put on their anti-abortion slogan campaign. If they get what they wish for, whoops! There go the votes.

Nobody is shaming women for having sex. They oughta spread them legs as much as they want. But they have a higher level of accountability, since they can produce life. What an awesome gift that is.

Nobody is denying them birth control.
:dl:

Yep. Every male who masturbates should be tried for murder. Ditto for women who menstruate. :p

You can (mostly) avoid ejaculation.
Women can't decide not to menstruate without major medical intervention.

So stupid analogy, as you must be aware.

There's also that part about spilling your seed on the ground being a sin. That means men who masturbate are wasting that sperm and that is a sin.

To be fair, that one I give a pass to. If you read the bible passage there, God specifically ordered Onan to impregnate his brothers wife, and Onan spilled his seed instead. So really, this was about disobeying God's command, not necessarily about masturbation. Genesis 38: 9-10 or thereabouts, IIRC.

Still silly either way, but I've had trouble finding any passages that specifically say that masturbation is a sin outside this one (where it could be rationally argued [well, if you assume God exists] that the sin was disobedience rather than masturbation).

What kind of insanity is this? We are talking about a fetus.
Gotcha! :D

Did you know that the kangaroo, one of the imaginary god's creatures, can abort on demand if needed due to some external stressor?

Ask a Zookeeper- Sacrificing Babies
When a mother kangaroo has multiple different babies in various stages of development (for example one still in the fetal stage, one in the pouch, and one being weaned from the pouch), during harsh periods when resources are low a busy mom may not be able to support all three babies, and so may sacrifice one to boost the others' chances of survival.

As humans this behavior may sound appalling to us, but we rely on much more than rudimentary instincts to survive. Sacrificing babies for one reason or another is actually relatively common throughout the animal kingdom, for example some spiders such as black widows will eat their offspring as they hatch, and some monkeys will drop their offspring from trees if they are deemed unfit to cope with their group's social structure. In this sin-infected world where death threatens every living creature every day,
Apparently some religious people look at this and declare it doesn't apply to humans.

Some monkeys: The Bruce effect – why some pregnant monkeys abort when new males arrive

I see. So some guy made up an excuse to **** his brother's wife and it got turned into a story so other men had an excuse to **** other women for some reason or another, it's right there in the Book that this is OK.

Same with Lot ******* his daughters and blaming them. But that's another story for another thread.

More than just that, they fairly certainly fear the nigh certain backlash. Yeah, though, the main effect of banning abortion or otherwise making them inaccessible is that safe abortions are significantly fewer. Unsafe abortions rise - potentially even more than the number of safe ones fall, for that matter, given the broader effects on the human society and behavior. Especially if the accompanying restrictions to birth control increase and reduction in effective education quality drops, too, which are somewhat safe bets when it comes to those who are acting seriously pushing get enough power to ban abortions.

No, I appreciate the correction.

See my edits. :)

Yeah, I replied before the edits :)

But yeah, like I said, silly either way. But in this case, the brother died (killed by God for being a bad boy), which is why Onan was given the command. In fact, In Leviticus (I think) it's actually commanded that a brother should perform "husbandly duties" to his sister-in-law if the brother passes. (Sorry, Deuteronomy 25:5-10, not Leviticus). Cause, you know, women can't be trusted to make their own decisions about who to sleep with and all.

ETA: Just for background, I'm a PK (Preacher's Kid) and attended a Xian University for a year. THe mandated "Bible Survey" course (5 hour class, 1 hour credit, talk about deals with the devil) is what cemented my atheism :) So I can be a bit A-R about biblical criticism ;)

ETA2: And you are sorta correct, in that those Xian sects that preach against masturbation often use this verse as support , even if it doesn't really say that. But again, expecting Christians to actually follow Biblical all the scriptures or even interpret them consistently is a lot like expecting the Ku Klux Clan to support a BLM rally.
