He had someone from National Review on that was fairly MAGA'ish, but point taken. It is evidence that not everyone on the right has completely lost their marbles though, and the squeaky wheels tend to get the grease.
 
Mexico just basically legalized all abortions.
Why do I see quite a few abortin clinics openng up in cities close to the Texas border in the very near future?
I am predicitng tthe anti Abortion drive will run in more popular resistence then any law since Prohibition.

Waiting for border guards to be sued for allowing pregnant women across the border.
 
I can actually see more successful suits against the so-called "vigilantes" than against those getting abortions or aiding those seeking an abortion.

"You have no standing, but I obviously do and you just injured me with this suit" - sounds like a good countersuit.

If you are arrested, you can't turn around and arrest the cops. But in a civil case...

It's already baked into the law, you can't even countersue to recover court fees. Even if the suit is entirely frivolous and you're a Republican state senator with no provable connection or role in facilitating the abortion in question.

Greg Abbott just said that TX "will work tirelessly to eliminate all rapists from the streets of Texas" when asked why there was no exception for rape in the new law. What the hell?

"Sorry, lady. You got roofie raped by some stranger at a party you can't identify because you didn't even know you'd been raped and are now pregnant but there's a 'heartbeat' from these few cells growing in you, so tough ****. But, don't worry, we'll find the guy and eliminate him!"

I was thinking the same thing. But not exactly. It decriminalizes abortion. It declared that the punishment of women who have received an abortion is unconstitutional. There are women in prison in Mexico, they will all be released. There is now no way now to punish a woman for getting an abortion but it doesn't necessarily open the door. Abortion is illegal in all but 4 Mexico states. We will see what happens.
 
Texas now proudly boasts the most restrictive abortion law in the country, one of, if not the, the most restrictive voting laws in the country and now one of the least restrictive guns laws. Texas now allows anyone age 21+ who can legally own a gun to open carry without a special license, training, or passing a proficiency test. So, yep, cowboy, strap that gun on your hip and you, too, can pretend to be John Wayne or The Man with No Name when you swagger down the grocery aisle. :rolleyes:

Are the doctors who perform the procedure still prosecutable?

They probably all aspire to be a Clint Eastwood character, but most of them wouldn't rise above the intelligence level of Trinity and Bambino!

He also said that people raped still have 'six weeks' to get an abortion in those cases.

Which means he's either A, lying, or B, is too stupid to know how pregnancy works. You can't even really know until four weeks at the earliest. This is less than two weeks to decide, plan, and get it done in a giant ass state with no one willing to do it.

Is it really that uncommon to know how long it takes to even tell? Do the basics of ovulation not get taught in Texas?

I'm reminded of an Ohio Republican. He pushed a bill that would, among numerous other horrors, force the reimplantation of an ectopic pregnancy when it's dealt with to, frankly, save the mother at least, because neither is likely to survive otherwise. This was roundly criticized/mocked. After all, there is just no way to do so with current medical knowledge and the punishments for not doing the impossible were extreme. The bill failed, of course. Then, a little while later, the guy pushed another bill that would force the reimplantation of an ectopic pregnancy. The first time, I could generously attribute to ignorance. The second time, though? No more generosity from me.

Is it really that uncommon for those pushing forced birther/disempowering women laws to know things about pregnancy? It's hard to tell a lot of the time, not least because it frequently just does not matter one bit.

Advocates report that current sex education curriculum often includes discriminatory and false information about LGBTQ people and medically inaccurate information about abortion. Some textbooks have even been reported to omit condom usage as a strategy to avoid STIs and list condom use as a high risk behavior, while using shame and fear based tactics to emphasize the value of abstinence.
