Ted Haggard..no longer gay..

This reminds me of that great bit in the movie Hairspray where Sonny Bono is trying to cure his daughter of liking black boys. He brings in a therapist, played by John Waters, to work his mumbo jumbo with one of those spinning wheels with a spiral design on it. Replace that spinning wheel with lots of prayer and laying on of hands (not on the naughty bits!) and you've got Ted's cure. Maybe they spoke in tongues - ohwhatagooseiam.

Not that it matters, but it wasn't Sonny's daughter (she was the evil antagonist to the chubby girl). The daughter being "cured: was the chubby girl's friend, Penny. I believe he also used a version of a cattle prod to "cure" her. LOL Maybe old Ted used one of those.

Thank you for that. My memory was a little fuzzy on this, and I forgot about the cattle prod. They did use a spinning spiral wheel, right? That's really important. Ted's cure depends on it. ;)

Not longer gay...

I wonder if he managed to cure his self-religiousness while he was at it.

Doubtful.

Well I'm sure every homosexual is relieved about this news - it was after all rather damaging to be associated with a person of such vileness as Ted!

Although I have grave doubts about Haggard discovering he is hetero at least the board has 'strongly urged Haggard to go into secular work' which hopefully won't involve groupies (gropies?) after the 'plan to pursue master's degrees in psychology'.

I found myself wondering how anyone can convince themselves that being gay is something to be "cured", but then I realized that the same people think that a guy can walk on water, be raised from the dead, be born from a virgin, etc.

If insanity is a race, then I think Christianity has lapped itself a few times by now.

He apperently never was that kind of anti-gay and more of a "love the sinner, hate the sin" kind of Christian. He never said that homosexuals need to be put to death, but just that they to change. So I don't think you can accuse him being inconsistent in his own teachings.

saying gays need to change is pretty anti gay imo. Theres nothing wrong with them.

Colorado springs is a very strange place, most people are seriously flipped out by gays...

Now that he's "straight", he's not "caught" anymore and is free to find himself a new gay prostitute.

Thus continues the great circle jerk of Ted's life.
There, fixed it for ya. :D

I see little in any of the articles on how his wife is taking this whole scandal. She's not been given her due insofar as the old "honor and cherish, forsaking all others until death do us part."

The whole "love the sinner, hate the sin" is completely contrary to the Bible.
Why do you say that? Are you playing the cherry picking game?

If John 3:16 says "For God so loved the world that he gave his only son" and the premise of sin as the natural condition of man is added to that, then loving the sinner is a valid conclusion if one is to love one's neighbor as one's self.

How do you get to your conclusion?

Sadly, Pastor Ted's "cure" will just be used as "evidence" that being gay is a choice.

Ok. So he's a male who prefers women but had sexual encounters with men (or "a" man). There's a word for that, right? And it isn't "completely heterosexual." I think they call it "bi-sexual."

At any rate, the article notes, "'It's hard to heal in Colorado Springs right now. It's like an open wound. He needs to get somewhere he can get the wound healed.'" Yes, because we all know how accepting of homosexual behavior (even ever so briefly) the Colorado Springs community is, right Ted?

It's hard to heal in Colorado Springs right now. It's like an open wound. He needs to get somewhere he can get the wound healed.
I'd suggest a long stint of missionary work in Angola to "re-train" him. Any slip-ups in his rehabilitation program would most likely be fatal, either in the short term (high unsolved murder rate) or the long term (AIDS).

Yeah, those christians are so loving and forgiving.

"Ted's cured, he'll never do it again. By the way, Ted, get another job and leave town."

:oldroll:

Yes.

The phrase "Loving the sinner, hating the sin" is used by fundamentalists almost exclusively to refer to homosexuals, in order not to look bigoted against them. However; the only Bible verses they use to argue against homosexuality state that anyone engaging in homosexual acts should be killed. Therefore their use of "loving the sinner, hating the sin" directly contradicts the Bible on the issue they are using the phrase for.
