Teabagger Whacktard Michelle Bachmann Promises $2 Gas

She is pandering - hardly unique behavior.

More distressing than her willingness to offer such undeliverable results is the willingness of some voters to believe her. I firmly believe that we need an IQ test for voters.

Doesn't she have any advisers that can try to stop her from spewing these laughable things? We're not talking about simply misspeaking here. These are ill-conceived prepared statements. If the people around her are allowing her to say these really stupid things now then it's downright horrifying to think of those same people giving her advice if she becomes commander-in-chief.

I'm not so sure. These statements are difficult to refute via soundbite and they resonate with a portion of likely voters.

You know, morons.* ;)

Yeah, it is sad to know that someone, somewhere, will fall for this. "I want $2 a gallon gas! I'm voting for her!"

*Just to be clear I'm not calling anyone who votes for Bachmann a moron, just those who would vote for her because of that statement.

EDIT: Although perhaps we should refrain from calling people 'whacktard' and 'moron'.

It would be unfair to characterize all Bachman voters (in the general election) as morons without knowing exactly what choices they have. That I can't think of a single opposition opponent that I wouldn't rather have as President doesn't mean one doesn't exist.

All coming from a so called "free market" exponent, sigh.

Reminds me of the kid that won the 6th Grade Class Presidency by promising Coca-Cola in the cafeteria, No Homework Wednesdays, and amnesty for spitballing the Principal.

You are right. Ill-conceived is not the right word. How about plain ole "stupid"?

At the risk of having some segment of this board believe I am defending her statement, I must disagree with the notion that issuing the statement was stupid, even though the statement itself is stupid, and even though attempting to create cirucmstance that could make the statement turthful would also be stupid.

That kid grew up and is now chair of your local Libertarian party.

If she were making select (i.e. just a few and well placed) statements that would increase her appeal to a certain segment I would agree. However she seems to be taking a shotgun approach to it and scattering stupid all over the place. In order to do that she obviously must be a source of concentrated stupid.

Maybe she is trying to imply that she will remove federal and state taxes (although the later is beyond the ability of a president; on the other hand, Congresswoman Bachmann's supporters might not be knowledgeable enough to understand that.) Of course federal tax is less than 19 cents per gallon and state taxes are in the range of 20 to 40 cents per gallon. Her followers might be so teabagish as to believe that fewer OSHA regulations will dramatically reduce prices.

As for stupidity, one is forced to remember the sage advice from the movie Scarface: never get high on your own supply. If she were simply selling stupidity, then she could go pretty far; but initial indications are that she is a stupidity junkie, not a stupidity dealer.
