Teabagger Whacktard Christine O’Donnell Wonders Why Monkeys Aren't Becoming Humans

ive heard this argument b4.

it suggests a profound lack of understanding of Evolutionary theory.

or just playing dumb.

in her case, its both. :)

I had a friend who years ago once went on a blind date with (what turned out to be) a fundy. They went to the zoo on a nice afternoon. In front of the gorilla enclosure, the following conversation took place:

Her (pointing to gorilla): Why isn't that a human?
Him: Because it's a gorilla.
Her: But if evolution is true, then why isn't that a human by now?
Him: Because it's a gorilla.
Her: But why isn't it a human?
Him: Because it's a gorilla.

Needless to say, he didn't ask her out again.

Good ... because it sounds like his answers were as bad as her questions. No, I take that back. She sounded curious --- he sounded like some intellectual snob.

O'donnel:I know, that's why I don't have sex.

Date Over.

Can we have it enshrined in law that every time someone genuinely tries to use that as "evidence" against evolution, a monkey comes to their house and throws poo at them?

Even more fun is when you debate a fundy, and they say "My ancestors didn't evolve from a monkey", you say "Mine didn't either". Stand back and watch their head explode.

It always puzzles me why the fundies fixate on apes and monkeys. Follow this logic (gorillas should be human by now) to its logical conclusion, and there should only be one species on earth...humans. All species have had the same amount of time to evolve from a common anscestor, not just primates.

I'm guessing it's a failure of imagination.

Why would monkeys even want to be human? To keep company with women like her? I think not! Thank God for His intelligent design to evolve monkeys. All the other species are just byproduct of His efforts to evolve monkeys.

No. She was just an idiot.

You realize that in what was quoted you gave as much evidence of her idiocy as you did his snobbishness.

Let me rephrase it with someone who might not understand the concept of light scattering ...

Her (pointing to sky): Why does it appear that way?
Him: Because it's blue.
Her: But why isn't it some other color, or no color at all?
Him: Because it's blue.
Her: But why isn't it green?
Him: Because it's blue.

See? Just how helpful was that exchange?

Possibly. Or just dumbfounded that she was actually asking such questions. Maybe that is snobbery to think that this is someone you will never date again because they didn't understand evolution. I could see that, I guess, but so what?

If she said, "Why is 2 + 2 not 5?," I think the polite answer would be, "Because it is 4." So I would guess, and it is only a guess, that he was simply being polite.

Analogy fail.

We have a winner.

If a child was asking the question, he likely would have explained why it was a gorilla and not a human. But this woman didn't want to understand - I suspect she thought she was being clever and could "trap" him into admitting that he didn't know. Her preacher likely told her to ask such questions.

Because that's the way God designed it, you big silly!

Not at all. Most people who have even a fair belief/understanding of evolution don't fully understand the details ... like common ancestry which branches off into other species. Many people when asked think humans evolved from apes, not necessarily apelike creatures.

Maybe that is snobbery to think that this is someone you will never date again because they didn't understand evolution. I could see that, I guess, but so what?

When they ask a fair question though, it is snobbery to not even offer up a brief explanation that the question is what's the issue. And then take it from there. Just blurting out the same non-useful answer is childish. It's obvious from the question that more/different information is needed.

If she said, "Why is 2 + 2 not 5?," I think the polite answer would be, "Because it is 4." So I would guess, and it is only a guess, that he was simply being polite.

If you think his replies are what's polite ... WOW.
