Tea Party vs War Party

The people in the film advocating the 10:10 program are lying when they say "no pressure", and they're killing people who don't toe the line (or more precisely, people who don't at least pretend to toe the line). How is that not hatred?

The "no pressure" bit is the sarcastic joke.

What they're saying can be summed up this way: It's up to you to do something about the problem or not. There's "no pressure" to do anything; it's voluntary. You will or you won't. If you do, it's not that difficult. If you don't, then the consequences are dire.

The people aren't dying because anyone hates them. They're dying because that's the consequence of failing to act.

Now, as I said, that message was completely bungled in this film, and they did the right thing to pull it.

Anyway, the "no pressure" bit is actually one of the keys to understanding the (badly mismanaged) message. There are no requirements, you can do it or not. But we should all understand that if we fail to do anything, the ****'s gonna hit the fan in some seriously horrible ways.

So although there seems to be "no pressure" -- no one's going to force you to help out -- there actually is quite a bit of pressure if you consider the consequences of doing nothing.

They would have gotten this message across more clearly had they not used the buttons, tho.

I hate to break it to you, but that is NOT the message the film actually conveys. No such message actually exists within the film.

It appears to be the message they intended to convey. It doesn't appear to be the message they actually got across.

Like Frank Luntz says, "It's not what you say that matters, it's what they hear that matters."

But we've gotten off topic for the thread, I'm afraid.

They're dying because someone killed them. That is not a minor detail, Piggy.

And if the global warming advocates are right about worst-case scenarios, then the people who suffer won't be those who don't act, but everybody. And yet, in this film, the people who don't act are singled out - not for the impersonal consequences of conditions in the natural world, but for immediate targeted execution at the hands of the ones with the buttons.

They would have gotten this message across more clearly had they not used the buttons, tho.

If they hadn't used the buttons, it would have been a different message.

On paper, ideologically, the Tea Party movement is opposed to federalism, socialism, and is fighting for a "small government" platform that would decentralize power- in theory the exact opposite of the NAZIs.

However, in practice, most members of the Tea Party are overwhelmingly militaristic, and support aggressive foreign policy. And since the U.S. military is a shining example of American collectivism, socialism and raw centralized, Federal power, most Tea Partiers are total hypocrites.
I singled out this snippet of analysis because I see it as well thought out and stated.
