A new poll puts Tea Party favorite and Palin endorsee Christine O'Donnell three points ahead of moderate republican Mike Castle for Joe Biden's old seat.

Other polls show that Castle would be a virtual lock to win for republicans, but not O'Donnell:

The primary will be held this Tuesday. It should be noted that the TPM Poll Average for the general election has Castle leading the presumptive Democratic nominee, New Castle County Executive Chris Coons, by a margin of 47.0%-37.1%. On the other hand, Coons leads O'Donnell in the average by 44.0%-37.5%.

The state GOP bigwigs are flipping out. They are actively opposing and attacking her. I wonder what will happen if she wins they primary? Will they just give up on what should have been a lock for the GOP to pick up a Senate seat?
 
I love the Tea Party meme. They gain some ground in primaries but they're putting forward candidates that are risky for the general election. A lot of self flagellation going on with the extreme right these days.

What is fun is watching Sharon Angle trying to move more to the political center.
 
O'Donnell's a buffoon and those who are supporting her (notably Mark Levin and Dan Riehl) are giving Obama and the Democrats a real boost.

I think the higher ups in the GOP are now worried about the number of Tea Party senatoral candidates out there. What is interesting is how they bent over backwards to give Murowoski in Alaska a chance in the recount, despite the fact that Alaska is almost certain to send any GOP nominee to the Senate. I think they are concerned that because senators have a much higher national profile then individual representatives, some loose cannons in the Senate can really hurt the party..they can't be more or less back benches the way a wackjog Represenatavie can.

Listening to some talk shows (we can pick up talks shows from Reno in Sacramento) some of the Tea Partiers are already screming sell out about Angle.

Well, if O'Donnell wins the primary, then it will make it that much harder for the GOP to win the Senate seat... which will make it that much harder for the Republicans to retake the Senate in November. That's why they're flipping out: they could very well be watching their chances of retaking both houses of Congress slip through their fingers, and they have only themselves to blame for helping to whip up this Tea Party nonsense. By tacitly supporting the creation & growth of the Tea Party, the GOP establishment grabbed a tiger by the tail, and now it's turned around to bite them.

Too bad :)
 
Apparently, it's gotten so bad in Delaware between the Tea Party & establishment Republicans that the state chairman of the GOP, Tom Ross, there has received death threats...

ETA: I like how these sort of scare tactics and inflammatory language are often used by some Tea Party candidates, yet when it gets this serious, they start to backpeddle and say "oh, we don't really want any harm to come to xxxxx" - nah, they just want to frighten the hell of out the competition using what some people would call terror tactics.

Did I mention that the GOP has grabbed a tiger by the tail?

And that is Delaware, a state known for its relatively sedate, civilized elections.
