TAM XIII Roll Call

Welcome! If you'd like to test that, you will most certainly find a good group to help with your experiment! Drinking skeptically might be right up your (scientific) alley.

In all seriousness, welcome to your first forum! Will this be your first TAM as well?
Thanks for the kind and welcoming words MoeFaux. This will be my third TAM (in a row). I noticed some posts in other forums that TAM was not as welcoming as some suggest. That has been my experience. Having said that, I blame myself in that I was not as proactive as I could have been. Joining this type of forum is a way to meet people pre-TAM, so I am really looking forward to TAM this year.

Well, mingling in a crowd of hundreds is intimidating for just about anyone, and connecting with a few good folks in any conference environment can be a challenge. But, posting here is a good start! You still have time to make some good connections here, so when you're at your third TAM you know some people to look for.

I recommend hitting the welcome table. Say "hi" to SkepticScott if he's manning the table - he's a guaranteed nice person! If you're adventurous, you can pop into Wowbagger's thread (here in Skeptical Events) and consider his Wednesday fun field trips.

As for navigating the Forum, the Community section is always a good place to get to know people! And you can also pop into the Welcome thread...I think there's still a few people still on the welcome committee (I hope!): http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64023

You should meet Crazylegsmurphy

Can't wait to meet SkepticScott and Crazylegsmurphy. If anyone is going to be at the hotel on Wednesday night, feel free to suggest a time and location to meet. I saw something on the TAM website a while ago about drinking skeptically on Wednesday night, but not sure what that is about. Thanks for the suggestions MoeFaux.

Take a look at the "pre-TAM Dare-Devils" thread - Wowbagger's been arranging some activity for Wednesday night. If you're up to it, add your name to the list, and join us for a zip-line ride. :)

First I heard about the "drinking Skeptically" on Wednesday, but that sounds pretty good too. I'll be arriving very early (on Sunday), so I will definitely be around on Wednesday - zipping my way through the Las Vegas sky at least, but that isn't likely to take up all night.

It's the first TAM for me, and I'm looking forward to meeting new people.

Good to know you will be around on Wednesday. The zip lining sounds fun, but sadly, my fractured heel is still in rehab mode so zip lining is out. Hopefully we can still catch up on Wednesday evening and I can hear all about the zip lining.

I will be! My birthday is the following week, so I'm trying to get additional days. For certain, I will be in town from the Saturday the 18th through Tuesday afternoon. And for certain, I'm driving back to down on the 25th for the Rush concert. Cheers to Canadians!

Excellent. I assume there will be spankings and tacos.

July 15th is rapidly approaching, and while I know some of the people that will be there on the 15th will be engaging in zip lining and other near death experiences, my orthopedic surgeon (and my air cast) forbid me from taking part in those activities. So, for those that will just be hanging around the hotel and would like to start TAM off with a drink and conversation, I suggest that anyone interested in the abovementioned drink and conversation meet at the Tropicana reception desk at the arbitrarily picked time of 8:00pm. We can decide which bar to hit once everyone shows up. Since I don't have an avatar yet (damn posting rules), I can't wear one so that I can be recognized. So just look for the guy with the air cast on his left foot wearing a smile (which is mandatory for all Canadians when visiting the US). Cheers, and hope to see at least one other human at 8:00pm.

I think you would have more luck just heading to the main bar, assuming there is one, at the Tropicana as soon as you get there. Or any bar, to be honest. You'll find someone.

I'm arriving in Vegas late on Saturday the 11th, and am planning to go scouting the next day for a good bar for an official hangout bar for the Internet people here, in or close to the hotel. If everything goes to plan, I'll be posting a new thread here on the subject, including pictures of suggested locations.

So if we manage to agree upon a bar in that thread before the 15th, then maybe you can set the meeting at that bar. Should we survive our zip line ride, I bet we'll be heading for the bar ourselves afterwards for a drink or two. I'll look for the air cast, and will come and say hi. :)

Great suggestion Swordfishtrombone. Also, since you are from Finland, which means that liking hockey is in your DNA, you can enlighten me as to why Finland has produced so many high caliber goalies over the last few decades.

Looking forward to your scouting report on bars.
