Hello,

I've been given the envious task of organising some fringe events for TAM London.
Last year we had a behind-the-scenes tour of the National History Museum, A look at Carl Linneaus' Collection, a pub crawl around London's skeptical and more credulous sites and and After Hours wander around the Wellcome Library's collection of pseudoscientific and quack-busting books. Along with a Skeptics Guide to Dating, a George Hrab gig and a pub quiz to boot.

I was just wondering what days folks will be coming down to London so I can cram in lots of the same this time around.

Ta.

I'll probably be there the week before or the week after. Can't make plans until next season's fixtures come out in late June. :)

One activity that might be fun would be to reenact a witch burning. I volunteer Rebecca.

Thanks for the suggestion Scrut. It will be in October, which does make you the type of Guy that would be better to burn.

I'll definitely be about, and would like to help organise at least one fringe event. I was going to try and organise one last year, but didn't want to clash with anything else.

This year, I suspect that clashing events will be a good idea, as there's no way that you'll get everyone on the same event!

Who is up for a Dr who themed pub crawl taking in the sights of London from the recent TV series? It'll start from Paddington station, and take at least 5 hours, but don't worry, you'll be sitting down for the first and last 2 hours :)

My original reason for plotting a trip to London for the 16/17 is to see Einstürzende Neubauten play a pair of shows at the Forum and Garage. Not particularly skeptical, but it's still rather fringe if anyone else is interested in going.

Dr Who pub crawl sounds great.

I'll score a line through the calendar from Tuesday 12th - Monday 19th Oct.

I'm not worried about events clashing as I'm sure there'll be stuff going on for all tastes - and not just beer. Possibly some curry too! :D

The only downside with the Dr who pub crawl is that technically, the buffet car on the Cardiff train isn't a pub, and the beer is canned, not on tap.

I reckon anything vaguely nerdy/scientific is fair game. I want an excuse to organise a visit to one of the underground bunker networks under London.

You know.... the ones that the illuminati use to get around during traffic jams :)

I'll add that to the ideas list.

I'd really like to organise a skeptioke night... I promised to organise one at TAM5 in vegas, but they'd ripped out the karaoke machine at the Riviera (Perhaps they knew I was coming!)

I'd like to pre-book 'Life on Mars' by Mr Bowie ... I think that's a vaguely relevant choice :)

We can raise money for a relevant cause using a device I invented called the busk-o-matic 3000

I have no idea. Nor do I care.

I know which episode it was... it was the episode where the Doctor wanted to go back to Blackfriars for old times sake, but his assistant was confused, because blackfriars isn't the nicest part of London, and the tube station is still closed :)

We would be going to the Blackfriars Pub, of course.

OK, hows about going proper fringe... an open mic night - people can do stand up, poetry, singing, acting, whatever they like. Time on stage will be governed by the busk-o-matic 3000 (You know, I'm determined to use it at a skeptic event :)

You've been watching too much Britain's Got Talent!
A Grothe-oke will probably be on the cards, but only as a fringe-fringe event. I don't want to be blamed for the above debacle.

I contacted the London transport museum, who used to organise tours of Aldwych underground station (where a fair few films have been made, including V for Vendetta) but annoyingly, they've stopped doing tours due to "Health and safety procedures"

*sigh*

next stop.. Boris :)

I was hoping for something a bit more upmarket, but you're probably right.. We open up the floor to anyone and we'll end up with people doing impressions of desiccated mermaids :)
