NOO!!!!!! I hate beaches! I hate sand! Oh, man, no one told us about the fine print about having a Tasmanian marry a blooming prince... should have guessed that there was going to be some sort of revenge for all of our giggling about hats blowing off in the wind.... :( :( :(

Too late. Prepare to be assimilated.

Our new national coat of arms:

That has nothing to do with Danish Pastry. In the US, DP is a soggy mess. You have to eat the real Danish Pastry.

A.k.a. Crown Princess Mary....(Ooooooh, I'll face a high court treason sentence for that one...:D )

Now we're talking.

Danish, Dutch, German, French and Russian in the running so far! Sweet!

Are any of you willing to endure some inane chatter and butchering of your native language at TAMIII?

(I'll only have time for one language, I think. Other considerations include availability of study material in Japan)

FWIW, the tortured grammar I posted above was from English classes I used to teach.

And in the spirit of fair play, I offer some Japanese (though it's *not* my native language)

Some Aussies actually go to America to escape having to speak "Australian".

BTW, "Aussie" as she are spoke is a distinct dialect AND a separate vocabulary AND a method of producing the spoken word that is quite capable of rendering the average American totally befuddled as to what the heck was said by who and to whom. It happens to employ a few of the operating characteristics of ventriloquism for a start...(it's to do with the summer flies, actually). Incidentally, you can get a similar effect trying to comprehend a drunken Scot in a Glasgow pub toilet on payday night.

So, Loon, if you want to try and converse in genuine Aussie as well, do ask!

That sounds interesting, Zep. I know several years ago I was able to hold up a convincing Aussie accent for a short, simple conversation, though I had a lot of Australian friends with very thick accents then.

Are you going to be at TAMIII?

Well, all I can say in my favour is that it's just as well I'm posting here. Because I'm willing to negotiate relocation fees.

For a nice two million, in unmarked American bills, you can have the country. Just send it care of my email after you've PMed me. ;)

Then you can do what you like! :D

Well Exarch beat me to the French, my third language so I really do not know it that well.

But here is the Swedish version; a comparison with Danish can be interesting since there are some similarities.
For all of you who do not know it, Swedish is known as "äran och hjältarnas språk" -the language of honour and heroes.

Hi, I am Loon
Hej, jag är Loon.

Hej, jag är dåre.

How's the weather?
Hur är vädret?

What kind of food do you like?
Vilken mat gillar du?

Potatis roar mig.

Swedish/Danish versions

Do you like the weather?
Synes du om vejret?
Tycker du om vädret?

What do you like to eat?
Hvad kunne du tænke dig at spise?
Vad vill du äta?

I don't understand most of what you are saying.
Jeg forstår ikke helt hvad du siger.
Jag förstår inte helt vad du säger.

Potatoes are of highly comical value to me.
Kartofler er meget morsomme.
Potatis har ett högt komiskt värde för mig.

That's the American way, not the German way.

.....wait.... ;)

Bumpage.

So who's willing to submit to a few minutes mangled conversation in their native (non-English) language?
