TAM Attendees Picture Thread

My calendar photo probably doesn't render me instantly recognizable, and of course I demand to be easily recognizable--how else will all the autograph seekers be able to find and hound me? Here's a more accurate representation.

Tower of London, you say?

Qué hermosa!!! :jaw-dropp

<== Over that a way.

This will be my 4th TAM. Unfortunately, my wife will not be able to attend this year - so without her guidance I'll be wandering about aimlessly. Feel free to spin me around and point me in the right direction if you find me stuck against a wall or something.

Thanks for the great advice, everyone! I am slightly less frightened.

Unfortunately, I purchased my ticket from Orbitz, which doesn't let you print out a boarding pass. I'll have to stand in line. And hopefully find the line. And hopefully not somehow wind up on a plane to Zimbabwe.

I can't wait to meet all of you :) You look like good peoples.

Also, Goddess, you're flying out of DFW? So am I. If we happen to be at the airport at the same time, please do not trip me and laugh :D

I am flying out of Love on southwest airlines. Re Orbitz - you should have a confirmation number or ticket number on the actual airline and can go to their website, enter the information, and get your boarding pass that way. I'm pretty sure I have done that before.

Finding the line will be easy. They're often long. :( When in doubt, if you can't find the signs, ask. If you do end up in Zimbabwe, call me. One of my co-workers is from ZImbabwe and I'm sure he'd be able to teach you a few important phrases. ;)

Don't have any pictures of myself with awesome skeptics (yet...), so I guess you'll just have to settle for one of me and a famous poker player.

It's a little blurry, but that's Barry Greenstein on the left and me on the right.
He donates all of his tournament winnings to charity, which is one reason why he’s among my favorite poker players.
Incidentally, we both had the same professor for differential equations at the University of Illinois; which is his Alma mater and my current home.

Carry-on bag
Clothes for next day (think "lost luggage")
Toiletries

Do they still make a fuss about liquids in your carry-on?
What's the size of bottles you can have in there? Like after shave, shaving cream, toothpaste, deodorant, hairgel, shampoo, to name but a few that can usually be found in people's toiletry-bag?

Last year, I also brought some laundry detergent and fabric softener along in tiny bottles (because I just couldn't find a mathematically pleasing solution to the problem of being in the US for over three weeks and owning only 12 pairs of underwear). Will airport security deny me the comfort of clean underwear?

I'm the older one.

Oh my god oh my god! Kari was there? Is she going to be there this year.

No... Actually I'm not a creepy celeb-obsessive type. But some of my friends ara....

And if I could get such a picture of myself and her, I could most certainly make them very jealous. Not that being in a picture with someone means you have any relationship to them other than they were nice enough to briefly pose...but again... I have a couple creepy-ish celeb-obsessive type friends.

Qué hermosa!!!

Puggy, I had to go to babelfish for that one, but thank you!

Hawkeye, Barry Greenstein is one of my favorite poker players. A true gentleman and a good soul, but plays a mean hand of poker.

(For any poker afficionados out there, I once got hit on at the Bellagio bar by Freddie Deeb, who mistook me for a prostitute. Offensive--yet flattering.)

Nope, it appears Kari will not be there this year.

But Adam will be, and Troy (or something, whoever that may be).

OK - somebody toss me some kryptonite, cause I'm trying it again.

lol. Wait a sec... isn't he married? (quick google check) ... with 4 kids!

That reminds me though. If there’s ever free time in between TAM events, I was thinking of sneaking around some poker rooms to see if I can score some autographs. I’m not sure where the most pros play though; maybe Binion’s, Bellagio, The Palms, The Wynn?

Yes. Each container must be a 3-oz size or less. Everything you carry on must fit into a sigle oe-quart clear ziplock bag, which limits the total amount. You can check whatever you need. As regards laundry stuff, most laundromats sell small containers that are good for one or two loads of laundry.

OK, so 3 oz in sensible measurements is ...

88 ml.

Man, that sucks. My toothpaste passes, as does the shaving cream from a travelling kit, both at 75ml (I don't like the smell of the aftershave that comes with it though). That's it.

Most other items come in 100ml (3.4oz) or 150ml (5oz) sizes. This means lots of shopping around, right after New Year, for the right size of bottles :(
If I can even find them in those sizes.

Do they have to be original bottles? Or can you fill up your own?

Nitor;

You jump out of Airplanes! :jaw-dropp

Nice pictures. A smiling lady with long hair and glasses--now tell me you're unattached and tall (over 5'8") and I'll really have to turn on the Hutch Charm....

...which considering I'm 53 and still unmarried obviously ain't worth much, but WTH...:D :D ;) :D

Looking forward to meeting you in about 2.5 weeks.

Remie, if you are flying out of Dallas-Ft. Worth, a couple of points; get there a minimum of 2 hours before your flight, more if you can manage it. Dallas is a mega-airport and the lines at the counter and the security checkpoints are going to be long. Also, the DFW complex has 5 remote terminals that are not connected and you have to take a shuttle train to get to. If someone is dropping you off, you might want to call the airline the day before you go and find out which of the terminals you will be leaving from and ask any other questions you may have. Here is the DFW site. http://www.dfwairport.com/index.html

As for the boarding passes, I am guessing that you are leaving via American Airlines (about 80% of the flights there are American Airlines, so not much of a guess). If you have aprintout from Orbitz with your flight schedule, it probably has a Booking ID or Reservation Number, which is a 6-digit code used to identify reservations. If you take that to the American Airlines (or whatever airline you are flying) website (www.aa.com) and follow the menu, you should be able to print out your boarding passes about 24 hours before you leave. I've done it several times.

Looks can be deceiving...:covereyes  :D

Here's all the current restrictions: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm

BTW, there's a Walgreens drug store just South of the Riviera (about 0.6km). Although they don't carry travel size items, they should have any toiletries you'd need.

Yeah, but it won't smell the same as the products I use at home. And there may be things I'm allergic to (I've had a rash twice before which I think was caused by using another laundry detergent than usual).
I also want my shirts and such to smell like mine, not like someone else's. Maybe I'm just weird that way.
