Tam 8

I've got a ticket to the Wednesday night show, and would be stoked to have some company.

Sounds like a good idea... I was just wondering if their whole week's schedule had changed. I'm going to go check tickets now for P&T wednesday. Split a cab to get there, I guess.

I bought mine through lasvegas.com. They claimed to have a deal that got you a VIP upgrade for the price of a general seat, but I think I got stooged. I paid $90 something, and the VIP tickets on pennandteller.com are only $85. Totally worth it, either way!

I'd be up for cab splitting. Anyone else keen to come along?

I think it gives you a price breakdown when you go through the transaction process. I would recommend holding off on booking South Point if you can. They've had two 50% off sales since January, and you can get a room super cheap. I got a "Deluxe King Non Smoking City View" for six nights for $358.40 (including tax). $60 bucks a night was the more expensive room too. You could get the lower level rooms for $45, but I figured, "what the hell". It's my first time in Vegas! :-)

There's no guarantees of another sale, but I would say that it is highly probable. In addition, I believe that you can get a full refund up until 3 days before your reservation, so you could always book your room now, and then amend the booking when/if the sale comes up.

I've been told that the prices go up close to the event. Also, assuming a bloc dedicated to us, it might be sold out. Of course, with 2500 rooms they won't run out

Maybe those of us who will be there early need to organize a pre-TAM P&T trip?
Are you volunteering? I'm game. I fly in late on the afternoon of the 7th, which appears to be the date of their last show.

Do I remember correctly that the TAM organizers had originally arranged for a shuttle for those going to a P & T show until they found out that P & T would be on the road on that date? Maybe if we can show we've bought enough tickets we could still get the shuttle (if anyone knows how to arrange this)

Probably not worth the hassle. Just split a cab for a few dollars more.

Makes sense, but with some of us arriving that day (the 7th) and registration not opening until the next day how are we to find one another?

There are a couple of great new inventions you might have heard about.

1st there is this kind of series of tubes that connects computers all around the world on which people can arrange a time and place to meet.

2nd I have heard of these new portable audio transmission devices that everybody can take with them to Las Vegas for last minute arrangements. You can even use the series of computer tubes to exchange identity codes for your portable audio transmitters.

Sorry, I'm feeling a bit sarcastic today if you can't tell.

I suspect that if you will find Forumites in the Del Mar Lounge. You may also find other early arrivals up in the conference area, even though nothing will be happening there except for some fantastic volunteers assembling the registration packets.

Volunteer, my arse, you promised to feed me in exchange for assembling those packets :D

I'll use some other method

When TAMinfo becomes active on Twitter, you can probably Tweet your way other members.

I've never quite understood the appeal of Twitter for adults who weren't celebrities. I can see its usefulness if you have to keep in touch in a fast-moving situation like the time between arrival at the hotel and departure for the show but otherwise...no

The appeal is that you can keep up with where people are, and get informed of surprises along the way.

Let's say that, for example, some big-name psychic decided to show up, unannounced, at one of the bars, with the intention to debate some of us - resulting in a most-excellent show, that (without Twitter) only those who happened to be there, would be priviledged to take part in.

Obviously, that particular example is unlikely. But, it's still good to be informed, instantly, of some of the goings-ons around the place, just in case.

If only I had gotten into the habit of using Twitter sooner, I would not have missed so many other fascinating opportunities in some of my travels.

I didn't really get twitter until TAM7. I used it to announce that we were doing a Skeptic Zone Think Tank, Richard tweeted it as well. We went from about 10 people to a swarm in a fairly short time, it was great. It's also good if somebody wants to go down to the strip, they could find somebody to share a cab. Or just to inform those that can't be at TAM about what's going on.

I'm suddenly able, due to a generous gift, to attend TAM 8. I'm disabled enough that I need a roller to get around, and I do photography, but other than that I'm not going to need much room in any cars that will be passing through the Bay Area to give me a ride to Las Vegas. I'm also looking to share a room. I've shared in the past with Curt Burgess, so he should give me a good reference. If you are on the west coast and have room for another person, please consider me?

I have been to TAM before, I have friends from the forums and from local skeptic meetups, so yeah, any help will be very appreciated. I can help with gas if needed and split a hotel room in 1/2, 1/3 or 1/4 -- whichever you would need.

And if you like to model, let me know and we can set up an area for me and Chip to take photos of attendees!

Does anyone know where I can get a main floor layout map for South Pointe? I haven't found anything yet.
