Tam 8

Already checking out flights. Found Melbourne to Los Angeles for $1638. Hoping there will be better prices towards the end of this year.

I use Kayak.com, they send daily email reminders of prices. I currently have one for Manchester, NH to Vegas, and Boston, MA to Sydney. :)

Kayak is awesome, because it will also do multiple carriers. I got a GREAT deal to Vegas last year flying Continental out and United back.

Does Kayak include Southwest? If not, you may want to check their Manchester to LV flights as well.

it does. I always double check before booking as well by going to the site and calling the airlines to see if I can squeeze out some more discounts too :) Plus search the coupon code sites.

We're planning on attending the TAM 8 event. Question, though: should I expect a package deal of some sort to show up on this site? Do we just book our rooms and flights on our own?

This is going to be my first TAM too. As far as I'm aware, the JREF have nothing to do with organising any flights and don't offer any kind of deals. From what I hear you do get a discount on accomodation at the hotel the meeting is held at (South Point Las Vegas). South Point recently had a special and many of us managed to score rooms for about $50 a night. It only cost the price of one night and is fully refundable up until three days before the booking, so it seems it is safe to book when you see a good price and then cancel and rebook if a better deal comes along. Make sure you verify the conditions before booking, though.

Hopefully the TAM veterans will be able to offer more info. Also, check out the thread I started called "Tam Tips". It's got masses of useful info in it.

There will be a group rate for room reservations, or you could catch one of Southpoint's sales. AFAIK there's never been an airfare discount program for TAM. The hotel does have a free shuttle to and from the airport.

Good information, so far. I found the Tam Tips thread and there is some good stuff in there as well. Can't wait for the schedule for this year to get posted!

Chris, Good idea reserving a room then canceling and re-reserving when I deal comes up. Too bad I just missed the 45$ rooms, that's a great deal.

It will be the wife and I making the trip and we will be mingling after the day's events. It's so comfortable being around other skeptics and thinkers.

Scrutinizer, what are you doing in the White Zone? It's for loading and unloading only. :)

I know it's a bit early for asking this but I have already booked my TAM8 room at the cheap deal but am lacking a roommate. Any takers?

Well, it would seem you've already mastered the TAM activity of "Grinding Scrut's Gears"!

Good on ya!

I'm hoping to go but won't commit till I speak with my boss. He is skeptical of many things and I know if possible he will be happy that I attend. And, I refuse to get a sinus infection and be sick during the whole event!

I can't wait to go. It's been on my calendar since I got back from the last one. Only 149 more days!

IOn behalf of RSL and myself, can I formally request that the skepchick party be held at a wheelchair-accessible location? In return, I will graciously offer free rides to any skepchick willing to sit on my lap.

:D
Thanks, Nobby! Unfortunately, my chair has a maximum capacity of 300 pounds, so I would need to find a Skepchick who weighs no more than 40 pounds... Before my weight loss, I would have to have found one who weighed no more than negative 100 pounds...

I won't be going this year. I've lost interest. 6 TAMs is enough.

Riiiiight.

If you don't want me to come, you'd better station guys with bean bag guns at the airport.
