So, we're trying to organize this year's TAM poker tournament. Right now, we have two main options, as the Skepchicks have offered us the use of their off-site villa for this event. So, we need to decide (fairly quickly!) what it is we want to do.

The two general options are 1) South Point Poker Room (Date unspecified but most likely Thursday) and 2) Skepchick Villa, Saturday just before their big party starts.

There's pros and cons to both options.

South Point

Pros

  • Hokulele does The Poker Room staff do all the work
  • We have waitresses to bring us beer while we play
  • Last minute sign-ups can be accommodated quite easily
  • When Hokulele someone gets knocked out, they're right back at the hotel, and all the other TAM events.

Cons

  • Certainly more expensive, with Casino rake
  • Harder to organize donations to JREF
  • The Thursday time may conflict with other Thursday events

Skepchick Party

Pros

  • Cheaper buy in
  • Easier donations
  • We have more control of tournament options - limits, levels, etc.
  • When you get knocked out, you're at the party!

Cons

  • More work for us - dealing, organizing
  • Harder to have people join at last minute - there's a limit on party attendees
  • Buzz0 might want to play!
  • Skepchicks probably expect bigger tips when they bring you beer

So, we need to get a sense of what people really want to do. So vote, and add your own pros and cons.

I'm good with wherever it turns out to be held. If it conflicts with something else and I don't get the chance to lose all my money, oh well.

Yep. Looks like those who actually have an opinion favour the South Point.

Hm, so will this be a 21+ game? And if so, can I be a voyeur cheerleader?

Yes, and no.

# What is the legal age for gambling?

At the current time the legal age for gambling or gaming in the State of Nevada is 21 years of age. There have been rumors that local goverment officials are considering reducing it to 18. If that happens this is the first place you will read about it, but until then assume it is still 21. Casinos are expected to adhere to very strict rules to maintain their gaming licenses. No one under the age of 21 is allowed in the casino area nor allowed to linger in the casino area while a parent is gambling. If under 21, passing through gaming areas to access other facilities should be done only via the designated paths often indicated by a lack of carpeting and/or along outer walls away from gambling devices.

Might as well call it in favor of the hotel.

Rasmus raised several excellent points in the other thread about logistical problems in having it at the Skepchick house/party, including Hokulele's organizing availability.

Argh!

I have had no luck trying to get in touch with Joe D. at the South Point, and my life is about to get crazy for a few weeks.

Sorry to fail at organizing this, but I won't be able to get it done by TAM. If someone else wants to pick up the torch, call the South Point, ask for the Poker Room, and ask for Joe D.

Otherwise, there is always the strip poker option...

Well, based on mr. ottle's post in the other thread, he isn't up for organizing it either. So I guess it's up to me, if no one else leaps up between now and tomorrow some time.

Hokulele, does Joe D. know you by name? Will he likely be confused by me suddenly taking over?

No and no. I have only spoken with his minions, and the only thing they have been able to accomplish is to tell me that I have to speak with him. I do have his business card from my last trip to Las Vegas, but not with me. I can get that for you when I get back home on Saturday.
