It shows the hotel sitting right on the beach, where the there is a main road in front of it. It also shows a “private beach club” which will not happen even in red neck Queensland as beaches are all public land in Australia.

I'd almost be inclined to say that the Gold Coast deserves it.

The geography of Surfers Paradise is a large sand-spit. Many of the existing high-rises already have problems with building tall structures on what was originally wind-blown sandhills. So a tall monstrosity such as proposed is very likely to run into stability problems, which will rapidly ramp up the costs right from the start. Should that happen, I can see Trump Corp abandoning the whole thing quickly and quietly. Apart from the name-licensing thing, possibly.

Another point just made to me is that Trump is despised by most of Australia. He is not considered a reliable or even legal business partner. The Trump name is not a selling point, quite the opposite. Investors will likely flock away from this project. So it is surprising that a local building company wants anything to do with him.
