Taking on the Fluoride scare...

Hmm. I work in the Water and Wastewater industry. Not hearing a lot on any "scare". I've seen some hysterical posts by know-nothing conspiracy mongers, but that's it.

The first i heard of this was about 2 years ago, I know this nut that told me flouride is designed to dumb us all down so that we are easier to enslave by the Jews.

The guy believes in every conspiracy theory he comes across and he weaves them all together.

We must protect our Precious Bodily Fluids!

There. Now we got the obligatory Dr Strangelove reference out of the way......

The fluoride thing is mind bogglingly stupid. Its maddening that it has taken hold in certain circles. If fluoride is making us all less smart and more docile.... why is there still so much dissent going on? Why do people still argue with cops if fluoride is making them more docile? Why are so many normal people who have likely had a lifetime of fluoridated water able to "disconnect themselves from the matrix" so to speak?

I try to get the fluoride scare folk to read this article and tell me what they think

http://www.quackwatch.com/03HealthPromotion/fluoride.html

But the usual response I get is that that site is run by big pharma. That's another thing. I know that are legit criticisms of pharmaceutical companies but whenever anyone talks about "Big pharma" I usually prepare myself for ill informed paranoid demagoguery.

Having drunk Fluorinated tap water all my life (yay Melbourne), I can attest to not needing fillings, nor seeing a dentist recently.

As to being stupider... Not feeling it.

Thanks for this link, reading it now. The only drawback is the Hitler reference to the 'Big Lie', even though the authors aren't calling the quacks Hitler, it seems a bit back-handed.

I appreciated the poisoning reference, as I saw a Jones video on sodium fluoride marketed as rat poison 50 years ago. My brain a'sploded at the ignorance...:jaw-dropp:jaw-dropp

Whats funny to me is how they always try and say well Fluoride in high doses is a poison, so why do they want to poison us. In high doses, yes. In the amount we get in our water, no. This of course is always from guy with a smoke and a beer in his hand. Nicotine in high doses can kill you, alcohol in its purest form can kill you easily. In small doses, it doesn't, but they have no problem taking other small amounts of "poison" like beer and smokes, but drink water, nooooo, that's an evil Zionist plot.

The Fluoride loonies just make me wonder about what exactly it is they think they brush their teeth with....or if they brush their teeth, for that matter.

*Obligatory 'their breath is as bad as their reasoning capability' snark here*

Gotta love it. Worldnet Daily had a column addressing the nonsense about fluoride and Infowars responds with an epic scare article.

Worldnet Daily published something half way sane and Infowars calls them out for not being crazy.

I think this part might be my favorite,

"The only winners in this paradigm are the aluminum and fertilizer industries working hand in hand with public water works to send a proven toxic waste into the homes of millions across the country. Americans are paying to be force-medicated and to act as bio-filters so multinational conglomerates can dispose of Superfund quality sludge in our bodies. Massive public relations campaigns keep the public in the dark and stifle proper disclosure of the evidence. Unfortunately, many Americans have grown accustomed to this type of cozy relationship between multinational corporations, government regulatory agencies and the elite scientific community."

Hello all:

Here is my take on the Fluoride scare in American and how Sharron Angle along with "reasonable" Youtube dwellers will save us all from being poisoned...

The John Birtchers used to be big on the commie plot angle but this is a real old conspiracy theory.

Opposition to fluoridation has existed since its initiation in the 1940s.[1] During the 1950s and 1960s, some opponents of water fluoridation suggested that fluoridation was a communist plot to undermine public health.[8] Sociologists have typically viewed opposition to water fluoridation as irrational, while critics of this position have argued that this rests on an uncritical attitude toward scientific knowledge.[1]

I've looked at the Wikipedia article numerous times and the phrase "uncritical attitude toward scientific knowledge" has always stuck in my mind. An uncritical attitude toward scientific knowledge can indeed be a problem. However, so is an uncritical attitude toward CRAZY TALK.

I can recall Alex Jones telling a caller who was challenging him on fluoride that if he believed water fluoridation was safe then he should eat an entire bag of fluoride. The video on YouTube was full of comments about how Alex had put the caller in his place and they thought this because of their uncritical attitude toward crazy talk.
