The reason that she can not retire is maybe all those mortgages from the houses that she is responsible for from the divorces of not only her own spouses, but the spouses of her children, etc.

Not to mention all those great cruises and other goodies.

When I signed up for the Montel episode, I expected to finish college waiting for it.

Lo and hehold, I got a ticket for January- 3 months later. Then when it was mysteriously cancelled, I got one for what was it, March?
 
You would think that getting hot information would be their goal so that their readings are more accurate, wouldn't you?
From the people who have contacted me who have had readings, the information was SO far off that they wondered if they (Sylvia or Chris) were even paying attention to the fact that they were even on the phone!
 
From the mouths of SB's "Inner Circle", her children push her to make more and more money so they will be set for the rest of thier lives without having to work.

The collection of vulgar amounts of money, real estate, book royalties, etc... are, again according to members of the "Inner Circle", pushed by the two sons.

Now, I do not personally see SB as one who, after running her business empire for well over 20 years, would be pushed around to get money for other people, but since it is her children I tend to believe what was told by these members of her Board.

I too have been told that she wants out of the reading room, hates giving readings almost as much as Chris does, and pretty much despises most of what she does, but still does it all for the money.

I truly wish that she would have retired several years ago, when she was at her "highest", then maybe, just maybe, things would be different than they are today. I still believe that when greed gets in the way, if one does have a true gift, then that gift will be lost.

Her cold-reading when I saw her was so bad I wondered if she wasn't going deaf!

First rule of cold-reading: pay attention! Seriously.

She had to have questions repeated for her, questions explained to her and be corrected when she misunderstood the question.

Just to clarify, do you think Browne ever had that "gift"?
 
At one time, yes. But as time goes on, and information is gained, it is less likely by the minute.

I'll be honest and say that there are times that I openly wonder if SB has been a fraud all along, and just following the "family business" as passed down by her Grandmother and Great Uncle, and the "family lineage", or if she may have, once upon a time, really had these abilities.

The more people I have been in contact with that have been with SB for years, the more it becomes apparent that she has been operating from less than an honest position, especially when one reads the Gary Dufresne interview on the Stopsylviabrowne website.

When you throw in the overwhelming proof from Montel alone, it pushes the scales over to NO Psychic Ability.

Interesting reply, you did not directly say yes or no. What evidence do you have of Browne's paranormal ability? Just one case will do.

From personal experience: absolutely none.

From the experiences of others: absolutely none.

From SB or her group: absolutely none.

There is no proof whatsoever that SB has any psychic abilities, and even though she may claim that she has proof, that proof has never been presented.

Is there anyone out there who has psychic abilities? I do not know.
Could it be possible? Could be.
Do I know? Nope.

Thanks for clarifying. When you wrote "But as time goes on, and information is gained, it is less likely by the minute..." it implies that you still have a slight belief in her.
 
I'm only speaking for myself but I do believe that people instinctively have intuitive abilities at various levels (things like when your sister tells you she's pregnant and you remember that a month ago you said to yourself, "I bet she gets pregnant soon") but not many, if any, have a gift like what Sylvia claims to have.

IF someone tells me that they are a master carpenter, let him build me a solid wooden structure.
IF someone tells me that they're psychic, tell me what will happen on Thursday at 2:30.

There are some pretty ingenius people who are able to see supply and demand and act on it...and Sylvia is a business woman.
In my honest opinion, I believe that Sylvia had many people who read many self-help and spiritual books and consolidated their knowledge to write many of the books.

Do I believe she's psychic and not just intuitive like many people are?
No. No better than any intuitive person who's paying attention.
She's never proven otherwise.

If it could be possible, then it would undo all of the knowledge we have about how the universe works. It would throw the world into turmoil and chaos. Nothing would ever be the same again.

You may not know, but you can form a pretty firm conclusion. James Randi said something along the lines of: "The evidence for paranormal activity is so low as to be negligible"

ETA: I think the actual Randi quote was about a supreme being. I thought it was in Flim-Flam! but I looked and couldn't find it. However, I would think that Randi would feel similarly about paranormal activity as he does about god. And I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I get a lot of email from people who say things like "She used to be gifted, but she has lost that gift through greed."

I usually tell them that I've seen no evidence that she was ever "psychic," and ask them on what they base their opinion that she ever was.

Of those who answer, they seem about evenly split between those who say "now that I think about it, nothing!" And those who base their opinion on things that he has claimed to have done in her books.

When I point out that those claims have not been verified/proven, many say, in so many words, "but... why would she lie?"

For many, coming to the conclusion that the whole charade is a house of cards is a difficult and painful process.

I've yet to see any evidence that she is intuitive any more than anyone else. Given that cold reading is a method anyone can learn, I guess we can all be as "intuitive as Sylvia Browne.

That's what I'm saying.
I should have emphasized the word "claims" in the sentence "not many, if any, have a gift like what Sylvia claims to have."

She's not psychic, she's a business woman who figured out a way to take people's money (supply and demand) and she hopes that people will be too lazy to check things out or question them.
Many of her "readings" are for things in the future and I think she counts on most people not coming back at her 5 years later saying that she was wrong.

(The first time I read your post, I read it wrong...)
